A Littles' Poem

[Guest Zips]

My eyes break open to the light of the day. Dazed, groggy, and out of focus, I see her lying there beside me, with one arm propping up her sideways-head. She looks at me quizically, but her eyes show nothing but distinct amusement, love, and fascination for their subject. The birds outside are chirping their usual chorus - it's just after dawn. "How long have you been watching me?" I ask, with a squeaky morning voice. Her voice is so tender and smooth, unfaltering - it's akin to the sound of lapping water over stones in a stream. "Not long enough" She replies.

 

My eyes come into focus after I rub them with both hands to remove the icky wax. Now I can see her long auburn hair and round face looking at me. It's such a pretty sight that I can't help but smile from ear to ear. She also let's one escape. I feel so at home, and safe, lying beside her, like I don't have a care in the world. The birds' chirping stops abruptly; their feeding time is over. She reaches over to the bedside locker and roots around in the drawer for something. I know what it is! I get instantly excited and shimmy closer to her. The noise of her searching ceases. She has found her target.

 

Her arm rises again like a great big apes', as she carries over this precious object. It's a pastel pink binkie. My eyes light up with joy when I see it, and she knows I'm already going into my little space. She holds it up in the air, teasing me with it for a few seconds - and I let out a moan of disapproval. "Nuuuu." Her arm finally descends and she places it firmly into the grasp of my lips. I mumble "I wuv you Mommy!" She pulls me close to her until my head is resting on her chest, where I feel like nothing in the whole wide world can touch me. She whispers into my ear "I love you too Princess."

 

*I like to write. I just wrote this because it seems like the most perfect start to a day I could ever have. I hope you all liked reading it, and maybe you can try reading it by saying "Daddy" or "He" wherever is appropriate if that applies better to you! <3
