Are there any other philosophers out there?  If so, what is your take on the philosophy of the Dd/Lg dynamic?  Perhaps it is a question that bridges psychology, but I would prefer to look at it as a question of fundamental values, or ethics.  What coud serve as a rational basis for such a dynamic?

My own thoughts veer in the direction of our ever changing social dynamic, one which is heavily influenced by technology.  As we connect more and more as a global community, certain themes start to emerge.  One theme is certainly the desire for Bigs and Littles to find each other, and to take joy from such a structured relationship.  I think this desire springs from a need to return to a more primitive way of lfe, while still retaining the digital nature of our current lives, and also from the primal desire for a structured life, one based on the organic nature of the male and the female. This would then fill the void left by the old world traditions of religion and culture, which have almost dissipated completely.

I tend to think the ddlg dynamic at it's core is rather primal as well.

We care for each other, our families and those in need - attributes nearly every society thinks are admirable.

The rules and expectations society/family/tribe put forth are for the survival and "betterment" of the individual and the larger group.

Most people will desire to be free of those rules/expectations for at least a little while.

Weekend partying, celebrations, days off and vacations are good examples of that need being embraced.

By having designated driver, someone to hold your hair when you get sick or even a good friend knows what's best for you & has your back (bar fight, dance partner, thwarting aggressive suitors, overspending, real world responsibilities, etc) can be seen as a caregiver/daddy and the free person the little.

Add in sexuality, gender, taboo, anti-establishment and/or BDSM/kinks and you arrive somewhere in the wide range of dd/lg dynamics.

Philosophically speaking, of course ;)

Dd/lg also runs as something for a comfort. Many littles run to it in order to escape the harsh reality of the world and return to their childish habits from so long ago. It's seen as taboo but somewhere deep inside everyone there is a small urge to be young again and to enjoy life as it was simple.
