HerDeSade Posted April 6, 2016 Report Posted April 6, 2016 I voted the way I did simply because I think the Fifty Shades book was poorly written and had very little to do with what real life BDSM is all about. Just my opinion.
Nathlana Kittensoul Posted April 10, 2016 Report Posted April 10, 2016 50 Shades was one of the worst books I have ever read. 2
Guest sirdude77 Posted April 10, 2016 Report Posted April 10, 2016 50 Shades nearly killed this lifestyle for it really stands for. This isn't a trendy lifestyle for people who want to jump on band wagons 1
Guest sirdude77 Posted April 10, 2016 Report Posted April 10, 2016 Jennyanydots, A lot of agreement with you about the Adams family
sirenaophelia Posted April 19, 2016 Report Posted April 19, 2016 The Secretary to me. They fit together whereas in 50 Shades... ehhhhh......
Guest Daddyseeksgirl Posted May 21, 2016 Report Posted May 21, 2016 On the subject, are there perhaps any other, less well known movies out there, that do portray the dynamic well? I love Lucy on regular TV in the evenings. Like 7:30 when everyone was watching. She even got spanked on TV once in a while when she really messed up. You don't see those episodes in the reruns but could probably find on the net. In the rest of the episodes, you can see Lucy was very much loved and also notice that Ricky was clearly in charge.
gah!ghost Posted May 21, 2016 Report Posted May 21, 2016 I've seen some people complaining that Secretary is bad due to showing an unhealthy relationship. One person even said that makes it worse than 50 Shades of Grey. Here's the thing though, Secretary is very clear that both characters are very mentally unhealthy people. Fifty Shades of Grey does not do that and because of it I think it makes it a more dangerous piece of fiction. 1

Fifty Shades of Grey does not do that and because of it I think it makes it a more dangerous piece of fiction. This so much. In The Secretary, it's very blatant that both of the main characters are messed up and dysfunctional people. In 50 Shades, Ana is written as virginal (never even touched herself) and naive (never had an email address!) as a way to convey to the reader that she is a good person. At the same time, Christian's mental illness issues are portrayed not as "this guy needs professional help" but as "much mystery, wow, so romance." Not to mention that women are supposed to swoon over him even more because he's rich, as if it's okay to be a complete jerk if you have lots of money. 1
dnswd Posted May 21, 2016 Report Posted May 21, 2016 (edited) Havent watched 50 shades and doubt ever will. Secretary as a movie was ok, a bit weird and sorta unique. But D/s wise didnt do all that much. Closest that portrayed D/s aspects to me would be Story of O. Edited May 21, 2016 by dnswd
gah!ghost Posted May 22, 2016 Report Posted May 22, 2016 Kinda off topic and probably not for some as it does nothing to romanticize his life but the documentary Sick: The Life and Death of Bob Flanagan is pretty great in terms of BDSM content. Also weirdly uplifting. In terms of Secretary one of the things that really drew me into it is the score. I love that score.
baby_girl321 Posted May 23, 2016 Report Posted May 23, 2016 (edited) i feel like that in fifty shades he wasn't really considering her feelings as much as he did in the book, and when she told him to spank her he should not have done it she didn't sign the contract plus she obviously couldn't take it.
