Baby Manda Posted March 30 Report Posted March 30 This is so exciting! I didn't know this club was here!!! So I set myself with a challenge this year, to become conversationally fluent in Spanish, keep learning American Standard Sign Language and see how many different languages I could learn to say hello in over the summer! 🥰😊 it's going to be the greatest summer ever! Over half my students speak Spanish at home and I would like to be able to reduce my need for an interpreter. I also want to know what's being said so I can better advocate for my students. I usually have 25 - 50% of my classroom on some sort of a special education plan and Sign Language is a great way to teach students to communicate without interrupting the classroom. Plus it teaches them how to be kind to others. I believe inclusion means we recognize our differences and celebrate our uniqueness! We make room for everyone by knocking down obstacles and helping each other succeed. Since we live in a global society, that means I need to be aware of the appropriate behavior in other people's culture before I encounter them. The best way to do that is learn! Then to share what I learn with others.
beanbean Posted March 30 Report Posted March 30 Yes I could see learning all that could be important for a teacher and welcome here one of my main goals this summer will be to see if we can get it a bit more busy in here 1
