Diorama Posted March 25 Report Posted March 25 @LilPrincessPup Sorry to hear about your bodily response to certain food. I think the most important part is that you eat a balanced and nutritional diet. When it just consists of Macaroni and Dino Nuggets it is a bit on the unhealthy side. When you are responsible for the groceries it is more easy to control what you buy and what you cook. That was one of my main points... taking responsibility as an adult for creating a healthy diet. So I was not trying to get across that we all should do things like your parents did, because forcing food has never made someone enjoy it. But exploring healthy options can lead to more interest in new options to make your diet more balanced. Hope to clear things up a bit here

I absolutely avoid things with textures/smells that make me gag, not even gonna challenge it. Some things i find less hard to eat so i do “mental conditioning” to introduce them into my diet (only on chill/good days tho). Every time I try something new I am telling myself how delicious it is and think positively. Really gotta try to believe it tho. It sounds dumb but it’s the same concept as placebo (think a kiss on a spot that hurts and poof the pain is gone). I also do it the other way around since new allergies and intolerances keep popping up, so it’s a quick way to avoid wanting these foods. Another thing is to get used to foods. It’s like meeting new people. In the beginning it might seem scary but you try it anyways. The more you hang out with them the more you might like it and get used to it, or you might not like it and scrap it- at least you tried. a good thing to realise is that eating is full of sensory stimuli, smell, taste, texture, temperature, colours and even sound (i hate the sound of eating it’s disgusting) all at the same time and often a lot at the same time. A lot of people don’t realise that it can be too much, especially for people who are already sensitive. In that regard you really have to find what works for you personally, disregarding what everybody else wants from you. For me it helps when all the food that I eat in a meal have the same texture, temperature, colours and similar tastes (hello salads & soup hehe). Another thing that helps me is choosing the right environment to eat in. I don’t eat a lot, only dinner, because I am often not home during the day. I can’t really eat outside my home because I need full control over my food, I need to know every ingredient and I can’t eat with strangers or in noisy places (when I’m eating over at a friend/family I always make sure to have my own food. People often don’t mind if you explain your situation, especially when they don’t have to do anything for it). Second thing is that I find eating exhausting because of those stimuli so if I eat during the day it will knock me out for the rest of the day, which I don’t want. Lastly i am very worried about food because i have a terrible metabolism so anything that causes even the slightest discomfort i avoid. i would definitely not suggest my eating behaviours because i have been told they are terrible. I am purely trying to illustrate that 1. You can introduce foods (I believe in you:) and 2. You’re not alone. Hope this helps a bit (btw I have terrible interoception (plus ADHD meds) so no, I don’t feel hunger) Ohhh senet, really megili can relate soooo much, and for the first time, she finds likewise nice people. Megili also has autism and sensory issues, or like the therapist said always, everything around is about deception, it seems to be a big issue for megili. When it comes to eating, megili always eats the same stuff, well it got better over the years, but as a little little back then, she didn´t eat at all, only luiqid foody and such. Later on she did find things she liked but then she gained overweight instead realizin that there are yummy stuff but mostly the yummy stuff is unhealthy. megili eats typical childrens food like nuggies, fish sticks, fish filets, meat everthin with chicken, fries and so on. Especially Spaghetti, pizza and such very delicious. Everything involving veggies on the other hand are just gross, the smell is very bad, megili just reacts super sensitive to any smell, its a real pain sometimes, also taste and textures. Veggies, if there are too much or certain types gaging might happen, it´s just tooo much and can´t bear it then. But, people never understood, there were like, everyone has to try at least or that´s not a real thing, get used to it and such 😢 Now she tries to broaden her food horizon step by step, spinach for example is half as bad not so badd as other stuff and can be ok. And yes, burgers from mcdonalds and such, always plainn, sometimes people don´t understand and give a non plain burger unfortunately. megili is sooo happy that she isn´t alone and even knows what it is now, doctors couldn´t tell back then unfortunately.
Senet Posted March 25 Report Posted March 25 Hihi i’m the exact opposite. I prefer biological foods veggies and fruits (no spots) because i’m afraid of eating chemicals and ingredients i don’t know. I need to know what’s in food because that way i can establish the problem if it gives me any (which it often does). I absolutely hate the smell taste and structure of meat so naturally i’m vegetarian . I think grease is one of the absolute worst sensations of all times (butter makes me gag) so everything gotta be made without oils. When food is naturally higher in fat i can tolerate it but still, yuck 🤢. Pasta is sort of alright not my vibe tho (i don’t like the colour and the flavour does not make up for it tho, only the animal shaped ones and letters are super cool) but spatzle and gnocci are firee. For me, i love rice. Grew up eating a lot of indonesian food, nasi kuning and lontong ketan (putih &hitam mixed is best because it turns purple) are my absolute favourite. My favourite food sensation is spicy food tho. I have a very high pain tolerance and a lot of things that are considered as painful i think feel nice + if there’s too much sensation to food the spice cancels it out:) i almost never go to a fastfood place and only been to mcdonalds 4 times in my life (unvoluntarily). Luckily i’ve had a lot of support as to my weird eating habits, just not from people who could help me (i have a lot of physical problems but since they’re invisible i am in a situation in which i get gaslighted any time i go to a doctor). Best is to find people in the same situation because however nice support and compassion might be, likeminded people are just as important. Am happy to have found you here<3

Am happy to have found you here<3 ahhh, really, megili does understand that chuu really need to know what is in it. It really is the opposite of megili, same issues but with other foody instead, megili really likes these chemical foodys, always when it´s fresh then it´s causing problems with megili. Megili knows, thats weird and fresh should always be better, but megili enjoys sauce out of these small packages and such. Also, if foody touches each other in cooler, like foody megili likes and other foody megili dislikes, they aren´t allowed to touch each other, the tasty one gets the flavour and smell off the non tasty one, if their are open of course. But people are like, just take the things off you don´t wanna eat, like on a hamburger, just take off the pickles and such, butttt the taste is still there. Ricee is nicee too, liked too eat it when megili was living in japan for 1 year as working holiday. Really greatyy in a rice coocking mashine and such, then a nice sauce over it, yayyyyy. But, that´s one of the few exceptions she eats from that department. Spicyyy food is nice tooo, when megili eats fries the curry spice has to be all over it, making red-ish friesss, yayyy. Well megili does have support here and there, but she really knows and gets what chuu mean, gaslighted by a lot of people or docotors too, only cuz ya can´t see it, doesn´t mean it´s not an issue ? right? but tell this these people, they really don´t have a clue And thankyyy, really happy to be hereee too

Everyone always say i’m crazy for it but i swear to god i can taste it. I hate fridge drawers because they keep the taste and smells locked in so when there’s one wrong item in it that’s contaminating the rest i’ve gotta toss it all or do some kind of sacred ritual to get rid of it, and it only gets worse when they’re incorporated into your food 100% (i mean howabout they don’t put it on there in the first place right?) Btw curry sauce is spicy? Always thought it was weirdly sweet lol. ye doctors… fonny fonny peeps. I mean i’ve been there with both VERY visible (like a displaced shoulder, still displaced btw after 11 years) and invisible problems but they don’t do shiiit and say it’s my own fault. After years of that i’ve called my gp out for gaslighting me, she then told me it was all my problem and that i did it to myself, and she doesn’t want to help me because of that, so now i have to find a new one. Idk if i will. They scare me, often scream at me and don’t help me, i can’t even talk to them anymore, my mom or dad always comes along to do that for me.
littlecountrygirl Posted Thursday at 12:07 AM Report Posted Thursday at 12:07 AM i get this, i am super super picky and my daddy literally eats anything. i have a system where i only eat what i know like you know chicken nuggets and such and anything my grandma makes (when i’m not in little space i try to make her recipes) but if anyone else tries to make her recipes i will not eat it, except my mom, although its not my grandmas, that i can eat but if it is anyone else i will stick my nose up to it because it is not the same. Though my fiancé/daddy just started cooking for me not to long ago and i like that so far but it has to be specific things the first meal he made me a few weeks ago was steak, shrimp, and asparagus, it was good…just his shrimp and asparagus were really under seasoned which would have made it better but all in all it was good, but he will send me reels on like instagram or facebook and a lot of the stuff looks really nasty, like this one was a baked potato and it had liquid nacho cheese on it (and other things that looked good) but i despise liquid cheese it is almost as bad as cheese puffs and stuff with that cheese dust. But i don’t eat cheese on burgers, i don't like hot dogs, i only like certain brands of chips, i only like ranch dressing (and honey mustard if you could call it a dressing) and theres a lot more things that i don’t care for but i would be here all night lol.
