Guest AngelicAsian Posted November 13, 2024 Report Posted November 13, 2024 So Thanksgiving is right around the corner and sorry if this is TMI. I have been struggling with my ARFID for 2 years now due to S/A-Grape and have been on a liquid diet for 2 years(Can't eat solid foods due to a fear of Ch0k!ng/Vom!ti!ng). I have been doing my food exposures since February when I was finally in a safe environment. I have had some success with some solid foods, but most of them are a nogo for right now, until I have more of a support system for sure. I would wish this on NO ONE and I feel like I am trying so hard. I have NO family, friends, or loved ones to spend this Holiday with. Does anyone have any suggestions based off of these foods I can eat so I can have a less sad Thanksgiving? Foods I can safely eat: KFC mashed potatoes and gravy, macaroni and cheese pureed, rotisserie chicken pureed with gravy or sauce, crackers, chocolate, pudding, Starbursts, candy, coffee, cookies, and sometimes in the morning a few bites of shredded hashbrowns with a runny egg cut up into small pieces with it, but it takes forever to eat it in the morning. I am trying so hard and it has always been lonely for the past 2 years with this condition. Thank you for being so understanding and taking the time to read this. Happy Early Thanksgiving everyone. 😔
LunaLilac Posted November 13, 2024 Report Posted November 13, 2024 Happy late thanksgiving from me! I have to spend events alone too so it's comforting to know i'm not the only one, and I've struggled with eating a bit too. Mashed potatoes is a great staple for any thanksgiving meal, same with poultry. that's most of what i eat if im lucky, though sometimes I have an orange jello with little grated bits of carrot in it, i really respond well to the texture of it i find. MAcaoni might be a good addition for starch too. 1
DaddyRaven Posted November 14, 2024 Report Posted November 14, 2024 Depending on how you feel about it, maybe try some stuffing or cranberry sauce
shadowrider Posted November 14, 2024 Report Posted November 14, 2024 Since you're ok with some pureed foods I would say try and make those more festive. And I second the cranberry sauce for sure. How about deviled eggs ? Maybe banana pudding without the vanilla wafers. And if the banana slices are too much puree them and pipe them like whipped topping, that way you're getting some fruits. Something like this mold with a layer of mashed then some pureed KFC chicken in the middle and drizzled with gravy. Maybe a little yellow food coloring in your mashed taters and use this mold. You could leave room to stuff it with pureed meat or veggies to boost your protein intake. 1
Baby Girl Miss Amanda Posted November 27, 2024 Report Posted November 27, 2024 First, big hugs for being brave and asking for help! That takes courage. I'm alone too for the holiday abd it is really tough. I also have food issues, different than yours. Second, some ideas. - what do you think about Jello? We do jello for holidays in the family - if you're not opposed to it, maybe some baby food pouches of fruits and veggies. The food is mashed/pureed already for you and easy to add to potatoes if needed. I do this when my tummy says no to every thing or I'm making a recipe for mashed fruit. I hope it helps! 1
HopeMuffin Posted November 28, 2024 Report Posted November 28, 2024 Hey there! Wishing you a super cozy Thanksgiving! If I were there, I’d totally dig into some mashed potatoes. You might want to sprinkle a little extra seasoning on them, like black pepper and garlic powder but only a lil. If you’re feeling adventurous, maybe give homemade gravy a shot, but only if it sits well with you. No need to stress your tummy with anything it doesn't like. Ordering your favorite dishes and warming them up sounds like the perfect "no stress" Thanksgiving to me! Enjoy!
