Hello! I've been working in Customer Service for many years now, and honestly.. it can really suck. But here's a few small things I do to make CS a liiiiiittle more manageable, or in my personal life!

- if you're scared of making phone calls,  just pretend the other person on the line doesn't want to talk just as much as you don't. It's most likely true anyway. Say a polite hello, get to your point, say thank you, go. I honestly script almost every call I make, for real! "Thank you for calling, x, this is x, how may I help you?" is a really simple one, but you change it up to fit you or your job. If it's a call for something like a Doctor's appointment, just remember, they're usually very nice and would rather have someone nervous than talk to someone mean!

- sometimes being overly sugarly sweet catches rude customers or people off guard enough that they are a litttttle nicer. It's hard to be positive 24/7 though, so just try your best!

- if you get anxious, make a lil anxiety kit to work with it. Have a stuffie keychain, a favorite pen, a picture up of something that makes you laugh or smile, have any meds you may need or snacks if you don't feel good, try to make life more comfy within whatever confines your work sets!

- remember: there are 10000000 reasons why someone may not be nice to you. You have more than likely not caused it, just do your best to move them along while withholding your sanity

- biggest tip of all:

ALL YOU CAN DO IS YOUR BEST. It's okay if your best isn't "good enough". That means you weren't destined for it. A better fit will come to you. Just do your best, try not to give up.

Thank you so much for the tips. I've been working in customer service for a year now and I still hate taking calls. Mostly it's because clients are unpredictable, most of them are okay but the ones that shout and swear just make me so anxious. I'm a bit better at handling them now but I hate the feeling I get in my chest after interacting with them.
