How to explore being a pet

I have been curious for a little bit about pet play specifically a cat/kitten. I don't know how to go about exploring it or what I should try? If there are any tips it would be helpful or feel free to message me.

Ooh thank you. I don't know how to start exploring it. Do I just try it or do I need to maybe get something (like a tail or something) to get into the headspace.

You absolutely do not need special items. They can be fun, but before looking at any gear, I fully suggest trying to find your mindset.

It can be as simple as your littlespace self playing a game of pretend!

Lots of backstory on how I turned into a human. I'm super involved with story telling and creative writing, so that's partly how I found my headspace.

My sheepspace is bubbly, pink, rainbows, happychaos, absolutely no human drama allowed... but also airheaded and occasionally Disney Villain levels of cute cranky.

I do actually have a super cute floppy pair of white bow ears,  but I didn't get them until I was certain I was a sheep in my heart! And tthey're currently the only pair I have, because again, I don't need gear to just be myself.

Becoming a sheep, admittedly,  was a bit of an accident. I like to dress up dolls and play on various dress up doll sites, because it's easier clean up.

On one of my doll sites, I lacked items as I was a newbie at the time. So I gathered what I could from the cheapest stuff... wore the absolute hell out of a very particular animal hoodie. I was happy cause it was super cute.

Didn't change my doll for several months as I saved to buy bigger items...but was still heavily active in the forums. It's common to change your doll every few days.

The site was small, simular to this, so I started to get recognized. After awhile, other users stopped calling me by my username ( Alexia ) and just some version of sheep/sheepy Some of the nicknames I was given, were actually longer to type out (we could only quote or copy paste).

At first, I was annoyed. But then I jumped on the chance to help keep the forums bright and happy, once I realized just how much my overall positive vibe was affecting others. I typically avoided irl serious topics back then and stuck with lighthearted chatter.

Any time anyone not a regular on the forums mentioned sheep in their op, I'd get summoned by (what felt like) everybody.

Eventually, I worked out some spacesheep lore for user events I held in various hangouts...

It was a crazy ride, but eventually, I got to volunteer officially as a part of staff for the site. Mainly as a writer and items uploader, but just keeping all the forums happy/active. It was common for users to clump in certain forums and I got tasked with being active across the site,  rather than just one subforum. I was already floating freely around anyways, so~

I was able/expected to answer user questions regarding staff, which was... chaos but fun.

Gosh, I got kinda rambly here. 😅 I still miss that community now that Ernya's been gone for 10 years. But, thankfully, many of us are still friends other places.

Just to be clear, you're journey to becoming a pet is special to you specifically. There is no right or wrong way to go about it. It can be elaborate or simple, but be true to yourself. Don't use my story as anything more than just happy experience sharing.

If you're a pet, then you're a pet! You don't need special gear or anybody's permission. ♡

that’s so interesting, thank you for answering all of my questions! i also love creative writing and I typically only see cats or dogs, occasionally bunnies, but your experience has shown me a unique perspective that i feel like resonates more with how i also am as a person  ^__^ thank you for sharing

Dogs and cats are overrated, lol.

Gosh, there's been so many through the years... I'm currently waiting for Grimsbrook to open. Dappervolk, Lasria, Kingdomofknuffle...

I absolutely do not recommend Gaiaonline or Voltra, as they've got massive problems. But I mean, they exist and I'm not your parent, lol.

I don't know if Solia and Roliana even still exist?

Everskies doll is cute, but they're flooded with users from tiktok, so I didn't stick around.

On mobile, I strongly recommend Happy Pet Story and Webkinz. Both are very fair to their non paying free users.

Also, I strongly recommend that you do not mention DDLG on any of these sites I've listed, should you join. For your own safety~

I hope you don't feel pressured into buying items with real money, should you join Gaia. They don't care about their users one bit and majority of features are broken. They started going downhill around 2009 and hasn't really recovered since.

Webkinz, on the other hand... they have amazing customer service should something happen with your account. And are constantly updating and interacting with their users.

Both places can feel overwhelmingly large, but with Webkinz, they at least give a shit about their products.

I always find the pet discussion interesting. I'm not a pet but am a furry, champagne pink fox, so it intrigues me to see how people so the overlap and distinctions. So, as an example, I have ears, tails and paws, collar and leash and do identify with foxes but more with an anthropomorphic version versus a feral or four legged one. So curious to see thoughts 😁

i think I’ve heard of that a longgg while back but I don’t give into buying things with real money easily. I play quite a few games already that try to pressure their player base into paying for cosmetics and even some that are pay to win, but I just stick with grinding to get what I want ^__^ but the other recommendations you gave seem very interesting so I don’t think I’ll be joining Gaia.

I'm sorry I am unfamiliar with Gaia or Webkinz? Are they other forums you can join that are more pet focused?

I consider myself partially furry. I would never wear a fur suit, but accessories are fine. I also wouldn't wear a collar and leash or use a cage, so technically, I'm I really a true pet?

But I agree with you that it's interesting to see overlaps and definitions.

As far as anthropomorphic vs feral goes, I actually flip between the two. Never with personality or loss of intelligence, just how many legs I have, lol.

Gaia is a forum board with added features. Webkinz is a downloaded app for PC or mobile. Webkinz is 100% pet focused, but Gaia does have various pet options. Both allow dress up.

As far as pet forums go, I honestly don't have a list. The community is always changing, so~

Pixelcatsend is too new, so idk much about it yet, other than cute cats. But beyond that, idk.

I've explored pet play a little bit with my Daddy. My little name is Melody, but when I'm Daddy's puppy, I'm a fluffy purple puppy named Pandora (a basic animal choice to some, but I love it 🥰) Having another name helps me get into my pet space. It can be a lot of fun, and you really don't have to purchase anything to explore pet play. The sweetness and innocence of being a pet is actually very similar to being a little in my opinion. It's fun romping around on the bed and happily wagging my tail (an imaginary one currently) and just embracing the energetic joy of being a puppy.
