What did you want to be when you grew up?

Hi There! ❤️

So, what did everyone want to be when they grew up?

@Sammykins Had a great idea to also ask “ if there was no obstacles which career would you go for now?”

For a while (around ages 9 to 12) I wanted to be THE U.S. Surgeon General. I even wore green 💚  scrubs for Halloween …and then continued to wear them until I grew out of them. It didn’t hurt that the fabric was nice too 😂😂😂

In the end, I didn’t like that they didn’t actually have to be a surgeon or that they had to serve in the military. Having grown up as a military dependent really deglamorized that for me. Plus, my dad thought I wouldn’t like it anyway. 🤣

There were a few things I wanted to be...

I think I was 5ish when I declared I was gonna be a veterinarian.. then I was totally gonna work for NASA, particularly in the SETI program... I was 10ish I think.

At one point I wanted to be a Nurse... Then video game and or website developer... IT technician of some sort. A cosmetician or cosmetologist... a mechanical engineer... a novelist...

As you can see, I spent most of my childhood completely undecided. I did go to college for a short while, but ended up dropping out due to my inability to focus.

I think now, if I were to pursue any sort of higher education, it would probably be a vocational school where I could enter the job market sooner.

Ohmygosh! You were such a dreamer as a kid! ❤️❤️❤️ I love it!

I also remember once wanting to own a video rental store lol 😂 🪦💀 and when I was a teen I wanted be a Librarian. 📚

There’s nothing wrong with having too many options!

What kind of vocation do you think you would do now?

@AdorableNancyDrew Probably a HVAC technician, Electrician, Plumber, Building Engineer, Automotive Service Technicians and Mechanics...

Something along those lines... Very hands on and aimed at helping calm my gender dysphoria. Something like what Mike Rowe has shown on Dirty Jobs, lol.

I LOVE MIKE ROWE! ❤️

Also, I have a friend that does HVAC and they love it. Plus, HVAC people are basically superheroes in the southwest 😂😂😂 Why not go for it?

@AdorableNancyDrew Mike is tons of fun to watch bonk a job up! xD

Well, if it was as simple as just going for it, I probably would. But unfortunately, I have a lot of health issues. So it would be incredibly tricky to navigate through.

But it does sound fun~

Oh! I’m so sad to hear that 🥲 I hope that you get to do something that you like, whenever or whatever that may be.

@AdorableNancyDrew Ah, that's just how life works, lol.. but thanks.

I didn't get what I wanted, but I feel like I got what I needed.

Lately, I've been focusing on my writing. I don't think I'm any good at it, but it's something I'm passionate about that doesn't require physical things that I can't do.

I love this question!

I had two major dreams jobs when I was young! Ever since I could remember I wanted to be a chef! I loved cooking and it was always so fun to see what I could create!

When I was a teenager, it shifted mainly from influence from family about going to school to be a veterinarian! I love animals and was never afraid to do what was needed for their care. I was in 4H so did a lot with bigger livestock and now had/have tons of small furbabies! Although never became the vet!

I think we should add the question - if there was no obstacles which career would you go for now?

When I was a kid, I wanted to be either a chef or a librarian. I still do I have always thought it would be cool to open bookstore with themed food for books that change like once a month.

When I was a kid I wanted to be Xena, she was so strong and beautiful, I really admired her.

I started very early learning how to make video games, but that didn't really work out

Oooh this sounds fun. I wanted to be a Barbie Princess when I grew up. Being the big barbie fan that I am I grew up having every barbie movie, the doll that came with the movie and we had a family tailor that would make me a matching dress with my barbie. Can you see how the spoiled life choose me? 😂then I wanted to become a teacher because I liked being in charge and telling people what to do (Brat!). I then wanted to become the secretary of the president but then quickly realized I didn’t want to die just because someone wants to get to the number one guy. Unless you are a literal child I’m not sure if I’d be willing to sacrifice my life for a stranger. I also wanted to be a librarian, I’m seeing a lot of that on this thread, I actually worked at my local library for almost a year I love going to the library not the biggest fan of actually have to work there hahaa. I also wanted to be a pilot, I have my hours but I’m not an actual pilot because pilots go deaf really early due to their career so now I’m working an office job and my dream is to become a Barbie Princess Stay at Home Little. I figured I had it right the first time  🤷🏾‍♀️ 😂

4H is so cool! I always thought those students were the nicest people too! I LOVE the idea of adding “if there was no obstacles which career would you go for now?”
I’ll edit it to include that! ❤️❤️

Xena was seriously the coolest, I don’t blame you at all for wanting to be like her. I’m sorry the video game design didn’t work out though. 🥲❤️

Okay, so your post MADE MY EVENING! 💖💖💖

Now I want a tailor in my family! 💖
Again, pleasure to meet another wanna be librarian!

I HAD no idea that pilots lose their hearing! I’ll have to look into this.
The Presidents Secretary part has me laughing so hard 😂😂😂
There’s totally someone out there that can make your little dreams come true 💖💖

She really is! I was always mocked for it because I was born a boy, but now I'm tentatively trying to explore femininity so I'm taking steps to fulfil that dream!

Yeah that really hurt I wanted that more than anything, but now I'm trying to be a games journalist on the internet, though that has been a very upward hill to climb too.

Gonna show my age and probably make y'all google some things lol.

As a young kid I was torn between living like Grizzly Adams or being Evel Knievel. After seeing Evel take a few crashes on that bike and getting hauled away I decided stuntman or racing sounded safer.

There were several other things along the way but the track always called me back. Never made pro so I could do it for a living but I did alright for a part time racer.

Now I'm back to Grizzly Adams living, I just can't convince the state to let me have a bear.

If I had to start all over and could choose any career ? I'd go into medical for a few years to bank some cash then open a food truck and spread happiness everywhere I went.

The fact that I know who Grizzly Adams or Evel Knievel is surprising. I need to thank my older family members who made sure I grew up well rounded and not stuck in my own time. 😂

Mostly drag racing and some dirt road stuff. Drag racing is where I had the most fun and success. I've been a gear head my whole life.

I love finding random food trucks and trying them out. And carnival/fair food is always amazing.

Definitely thank them, Grizzly Adams was a good show. My parents made sure I grew up on their music and shows too so my tastes run from current to the 50s in tv, movies, and music.
