Aikko Posted August 31, 2024 Report Posted August 31, 2024 As 3/4 Cherokee, I thought I’d post this in advance of November. I am looking for others who might be interested in exploring Cherokee, NC with me. I was here once in passing for about 2 weeks when I was in foster care as a teen when I learned this was my heritage. I would absolutely love to go back as an adult with a greater appreciation for the history of where my people came from. Below is a safe link to the Museum of the Cherokee People, one of the sites I’d like to revisit. If anyone would like to join/meet up, feel free to comment and we can make plans! https://motcp.org 1
shadowrider Posted August 31, 2024 Report Posted August 31, 2024 Cherokee is so beautiful in the late Fall and Early winter. It's beautiful all year long but those are my favorite times. Though a lot of the area isn't really active in the Winter season. Things start closing down to avoid the snow and ice I suppose. When I can get away there's a woman that rents cabins in Townsend, Tn, that I deal with. I like the week before Christmas or the week between Christmas and New Years. It may snow but I've never been snowed in and you can get out during the day and hit Dollywood or the shops and not totally freeze. And it's not that far to go up the mountain to see snow or pop into Cherokee. Also Cherokee isn't that far from Bryson City, NC where you can hop on the Polar Express, a must do if you can swing it. There was also a pizza spot in Bryson, if it's still there it's worth a stop in for sure. 1
Cebakes Posted August 31, 2024 Report Posted August 31, 2024 I’m 12.5 % Lenape Indian. Always like to rep my Indian heritage. 1
