Phoenix78 Posted August 23, 2024 Report Posted August 23, 2024 So we are going to moving and I was wondering how to pack away stuff better to make it easier. Like bigger personal stuff? And stuff that isnt flexible or bendable?
babydollmira Posted August 23, 2024 Report Posted August 23, 2024 This is terrible advice but it’s short distance I usually just held it in my hand in the car like my plushies or sometimes books, my gaming consoles and what not, but unfortunately the flexible or bendable things I’m afraid I can’t help 🥲
NR_Daddy Posted August 23, 2024 Report Posted August 23, 2024 (edited) Can you give examples of "bigger personal stuff" and "stuff that isn't flexible or bendable"? Are you planning on using a removals company or doing it yourself? I've worked for a few removal companies and done household and business moves, as well as export packing. One thing I would say is to box everything you don't need on a daily basis as soon as you can, because it's less pressure the closer you get to moving day. Use the opportunity to have a clear out and get rid of things you don't want or need any more. Don't overfill large boxes with things like DVD's or books, as they become too heavy to lift. Use smaller ones. Look on your local Freecycle website, sometimes people advertise moving packing boxes for free. Also mark your boxes clearly with contents and to which room they belong, eg ... kitchen, bedroom, bathroom etc so you can find the essentials when you need them. When packing china/glass use plenty of wrapping paper and stack cups/glasses upright with plenty of scrunched paper in between, and clearly mark the box, which should again be a small box as they can be too heavy if a larger box and more prone to movement, which leads to breakages. Stack those boxes on a van without anything else on top unless it's bedding, which you can put into large refuse sacks tied up. As far as furniture goes, leave chests of drawers with contents in, take drawers out to load onto the vehicle, carry drawers out and put back in the carcass. always stack furniture and appliances at the bottom, boxes on top, then soft stuff like sofa cushions on top of boxes. JunleMaster Posted October 25, 2024 Report Posted October 25, 2024 (edited) I usually start with packing stuff I don’t use much, like textbooks and decor—less stress when moving day’s close, and you don’t feel like you’re scrambling. For bigger stuff that doesn’t bend, I just use sturdy boxes with some padding to keep things safe, especially if it’s something I don’t want getting scratched. Labeling boxes by room is huge too—saves a lot of hassle when unpacking. And if you're still looking for a place to move into, I found this site, for Queens student rentals, that lists apartments for the school year, which makes life a lot easier. DaddyRaven Posted October 25, 2024 Report Posted October 25, 2024 i agree with everyone above; pack what u don't need in the mean time, first. Then each day pack a bit more- keep enough out for what you'll need while you're still at the current place. There are a lot of checklists online u can print off to help u so u won't forget something.
