puppyskull Posted July 21, 2024 Report Posted July 21, 2024 What's something you do to take care of the planet? It can be a direct action such as recycling or it can be indirect such as buying from ecological sources 🌎 In my case, I used to collect a lot of stationery, markers, pencils, notebooks, etc, but never really used them, so now when I go out I stop myself from buying anything I already have in my house. I'm slowly but surely using everything I've collected so far instead of buying new things I don't need What about you? 1 1

LunaLilac Posted July 21, 2024 Report Posted July 21, 2024 The only thing stopping yourself from doing something like that is yourself. If you want to help clean trash it just takes the desire to take the first step and do it. I try to pick up any trash I find on my nightly runs myself.

It is true that one has to push themselves to do this kind of stuff, but as I said it's a river and I can't get in it without any equipment. There could also be broken glasses on the ground so it's very risky. It's ok to help out but health comes first 😊
MissNMTX Posted July 21, 2024 Report Posted July 21, 2024 My apartment building doesn't have recycling (which makes me so annoyed) but I still recycle aluminum cans(which takes awhile since I don't drink a lot of soda.) I use reusable straws and drinkware.(tumblers and such) We have a plastic bag ban where I live, so reusable shopping bags too. I did notice you still used a lot of plastic on produce so I just bought reusable produce bags...I love them. 1 1
browneyedgirl Posted July 21, 2024 Report Posted July 21, 2024 I love using all the reusable things like straws, cups, grocery bags, etc. We had a water mane break recently and really had to conserve water. I didn't think I used an absurd amount of water, but it made me rethink my water usage and how I can save and reuse water. I.e. not running the tap to get cold water, use the water from the cat dishes to water the plants, wash fruits and veggies in a bowl and toss the water into the garden. 2

This is so important!! When I'm taking a shower, I turn off the faucet to shampoo my hair and the I turn it on again to rinse. It saves a lot of water. 2
WhiteMountain Posted July 22, 2024 Report Posted July 22, 2024 I'm glad everyone here is doing honest efforts!
daisy_cat Posted July 22, 2024 Report Posted July 22, 2024 One thing I do is when I brush my cat's fur, I save it all in a big bag. And once winter/spring hits, we spread the pet fur all over the backyard so the local wildlife can pick it up and make nests. Squirrels and birds love it. And the cats get a free show for a few hours. 😸 1
Gentleman_Daddy Posted July 22, 2024 Report Posted July 22, 2024 I worked on reef conservation for 2 years and a turtle breeding project, the most effective thing you can do in my opinion is educate local people and involve them. Very often the worst environmental exploitation is as a result of ignorance. Unless we are talking about corporate exploitation, in which case consumer awareness is still key (hello palm oil!). 1
LeftyGuitar Posted July 22, 2024 Report Posted July 22, 2024 I recycle. I also don't litter (almost left it as little, lol) either.
