Aikko Posted April 29, 2024 Report Posted April 29, 2024 Does anyone have good tips for downsizing and packing when moving into an apartment? Furniture and large unmoveables will be staying behind, but how have you all consolidated and thrown out the stuff you’ve accumulated over the years?? Storage isn’t really an option (unless it is like super cheap….but then it’ll still need to be secure and you get what you pay for…?) so how have you all made the heart wrenching decision of keep or toss on things that while not essential, make life pretty comfy? Or like things that should be coming like power tools…not necessary but don’t want to have to repurchase. Ack! Are pods a solution? Has anyone used them? What if you have nowhere to put a pod? Sorry, any general storage, downsizing, or other practical moving solutions would be appreciated!! Many thanks!! 1
Little kaiya Posted April 30, 2024 Report Posted April 30, 2024 (edited) Our practice when moving is this, if we haven't used it in a year it doesn't go. A year after moving if it hasn't been unpacked, it goes. Edited April 30, 2024 by Little kaiya 1
Guest kattostonks Posted April 30, 2024 Report Posted April 30, 2024 (edited) I’m not sure where you’re at where I am has good safe cheap storage options, living in a big city means having multi level storage facilities that are wayyy harder to rob. My unit is a smaller one and runs about $75 a month plus tax which really really isn’t that bad at all. Depending on where you’re at I’d recommend calling around and seeing what you can find and learn. But also, I agree with Little Kaiya , if you haven’t used it in over a year it’s a safe bet to get rid of it. I tend to hoard extra stuff to make art later and that can absolutely take up a ton of space if you don’t have room for it. Avoid getting rid of stuff you’ll regret getting rid of later. Try your best to think in terms of practicality. “Do I use this? How often? Where can I put this in my new place?” Goood luck girly, downsizing is always hard 3: Edited April 30, 2024 by kattostonks
Juju Posted May 10, 2024 Report Posted May 10, 2024 Basically, I'd have to day agree with the suggestions made. Keep in mind those things that you can't replace -easily. Things that mean something to you. Things that are expensive, etc... Then everything else, if you haven't used it in awhile, get rid of it. I craft also, different types and it IS very easy to accumulate things. I either give it away, sell it or trash it. Maybe make piles. Look at those piles later when you can sit down and clearly think. I hope this helps a little! 😊 1
