I love to crochet! The easiest way for me to learn new patterns is to watch the youtube videos, then write the pattern in a language I understand because hdc, turn, dc, tc, slipstitch... all mean *&&^^%%$(*)&$% to me. LOL. I watch then do it. But PrincessTori is right, first get the sizing right, don't be afraid to stretch the work, it helps to see if you're consistent. Good luck and happy crocheting!

I love to crochet!  I used to all the time then health issues and then.... so not much in a year really, but the urge to work on projects is returning.   Youtube is how I learned and maybe a little bit of library books and a lot of free website tutorials it took me a few tries of rage quitting before I got it though.  Now I can make cardigans, blankets, toys (i like toys, the amigurumi ones, especially the aminekos) and I like making kitty hats, I need to make a few more in case it actually becomes wintery here I'll have different ones to choose from.

I went and got the cotton yarn at Walmart, peaches n creme/sugar n creme (whatever it is) and made washcloths.  Just chain however many, 20, 30... whatever, then go back an forth practicing single, double, half-double and the multi color yarn will sometimes make a neat pattern on it's own, sometimes it just looks tacky but it's a washrag so it doesn't matter.  Made tons and tons until I braved up to try amigurumi and then I was having way more fun.

Granny squares are nice too but it seems like others find them easy for beginners to start with... I had a horrible time figuring them out, even long after I'd made a cardigan and afghans, I still couldn't do a granny square!  I can now though, one day my brain said oh.

PrincessTori- I try! That's probably the hardest thing about it. I was really obsessing before I realized I'm making a blanket and it'll all probably blendv in anyway lol

HoneybeePrincess- Same! I watch YouTube to learn stitches and follow a pattern because, even though most contain a key, they're still SUPER confusing to me! Like, who decided to abbreviate them into another language?! Were they writing patterns on an old cell phone?! XD

Tinykitty- I'll try that, thanks!! I never would've thought of that. :3

Thank you so much, all!

I can knit and crochet, but I prefer knitting. Good luck! Both are hard but so worth learning! You just need lots and lots of practice. Watch online video tutorials, it's often easier than just reading about it! And join ravelry, it's a social network and pattern directory for knitters/crocheters and its so useful!

I absolutely love to crochet! My mom and grandma taught all the girls in my family how to when we were little. I'm starting to teach my niece the basics now :3

Awwww, how cute! I wish I had an heirloom skill like that.

Sad news, I didn't complete it before Christmas. But I will complete it soon and I'll be SO happy when it's done lol I'm starting to get sick of it. xD Anyone else ever feel that way?

Wow that looks AWESOME! And insane for a first project! I'm glad you're jumping right in and getting your feet wet (then growing a tail hahaha.) How is it going? :B

I too tire of working on the same project after a while. Usually if I don't finish art in one sitting it's a lost cause. ^^'
