My Last Month As A Teenager

Recommended Posts

Posted

I just realized that next month is my birthday and it’s officially my last month as a teenager. All I can say is, I’m ready to be not ready. Although I’ve always felt like an old soul, it’s still amazing to think that I’m finally exiting my teenage years.

However, I’m prepared to be unprepared. The unpredictable world was an unsettling place for my mind to wonder. But now? Bring it on. My joints pop as if I’m already in my 80s and I invest quality time in naps. Plus to my niece and nephew, I'm practically a senior citizen. At least I have little space to feel young and free again.

Does anyone else have this mindset as well? Maybe you’re transitioning from your 20s to 30s, 40s to 50s, and so on.

I remember feeling this way when I was 18 and "officially an adult" I was so so depressed

Funnily enough I'm 28 now and feel younger and way happier than I did when I was 10 years ago! I'm able to do all the fun childish things I didn't have the chance to when I was a kid like traveling to new places and spending nights out with friends!

I'm a grad school student so I don't know if I count as being part of the "real adult world" yet, but I realized life is what you make of it and who cares what other people think!

Enjoy the journey you've got lots of amazing memories ahead 😄

I feel like 20s are for figuring out who you are and what you wanna do, so 30s might be even more fun!

i can relate to this, i felt really scared and sad when i turned 18. i felt like i didn’t really live enough of my childhood and now i had to actually become an “adult” so that chance to be a kid or even a teenager was gone.

but I think that’s why little space is so special to me. although i haven’t shared it with anyone else yet, for a long time it’s been a private way for me to create a safe space where i could make the childhood i deserved!

all in all, growing up is tough, aging is a little scary if you missed out on things you wanted/needed to experience earlier in life, but there’s also a certain freedom that comes with both and you can build the life you want for yourself. :)

I can relate with you PowerPuff, I'm 21 and still equal parts dismayed and excited about the idea of "growing up"!

Although I feel a little bit behind the curve, as if I'm kinda lacking in the typical young adult milestones. I need to start driving more often, and get a "respectable" job with more responsibilities..and just generally be more independent and force myself into new situations 🙃

Capri, that "..who cares what other people think.." is another sentiment that I've had a lot of adults tell me about over the years. That as you get older, you stop caring so much about other's opinions. And that is one part of growing up that I do look forward to!

I'm going to be 50 in June.  When you're young you do have some time to decide what to do with your life but not much.  It goes by fast.

@Capri @littlebvnni @cloudcat @ErickWcurls You guys seriously rock, I needed to hear those responses. Even though I’m ready to be terrified out of my mind about becoming an adult, I feel better about it. It’s hilarious to think that growing up, I’ve always heard “stop worrying about the future, you have plenty of time!” Well. I have an opportunity to heed that advice.

My mind during childhood would always race about “adult” issues (trauma growing up) but after experiencing what I thought would be the worst things to happen to me and hearing all of your advice, I feel so comforted. And I hope that anyone else in this situation can feel comfort as well.

Funny story I remember watching Peter Pan when I was younger and got so mad at Wendy when (spoiler alert) she left Neverland like I wish I could be a kid forever and play with the lost boys.. I thought she was so stupid!  But now looking back at it as an adult I'm starting to understand her more. If you don't grow up you don't get to experience all life has to offer! Change is important to become a better version of yourself

Littlespace is nice because even if you're an adult you can still tap into that inner child and visit your own Neverland in that way! It's like the best of both worlds right? 😄

Yes, exactly! I guess this is my first time feeling this way and although it’s scary, I’m grateful to have my own Neverland ☺️

I would not be a little but it is fun to do kid stuff like playing with Legos from time to time.  I can understand the relaxing action of doing things like that or coloring.

Awe, nice! I remember the first time I played with Legos. It went great… until I stepped on one lol. From then on out, I avoided them. But coloring is safe in my book!

I remember feeling like this. And to be honest the feeling never goes away.
I feel like it every single birthday that I am never going to be that age again.
but honestly you will always feel young in your mind you just have to not dwell on it or it will consume you!

my teenage years and early 20s were a blur  I appreciate life so much more now and feel so much more stable!

I hope you had or will have a lovely birthday! 💕💕
