(not) Narancia Posted September 7, 2023 Report Posted September 7, 2023 Okay so this was going to be a status update but i did not want to submit you lovely folks to a wall of text right after "me hungy" from user1234. So to the topic at hand. I've been aware of a flaw of mine for a while now. I like talking. A lot. Oftentimes subject A will remind me of subject B which will remind me of subject C etc. etc. I have noticed this impacts my professional life as i end up in scenarios where i have to explain something step-by-step to let's say a digitally challenged person and i just feel like due to the speed at which i talk plus the occassional irrelevant elaboration leads to confusion. Have any of you found particular tricks helpful with slowing down your pace resulting in better enunciation and an overall smoother conversation? When i catch myself going too fast i try to focus on not swallowing words/letters but i feel like my mind gets cluttered easily and gets sidetracked. So yeah. Hope that kind of made sense. Good luck reading all that and having it make sense because i'm not gonna re-read it god no
Vampiress Posted September 8, 2023 Report Posted September 8, 2023 If you're talking to someone on the phone or in a chat, it may be easier if you have a text document open and make notes. Outline what you want to talk about and keep things in order. If it's in person then I'm not as sure about how to handle that.
AspiringDaddy Posted September 9, 2023 Report Posted September 9, 2023 Observe your own thoughts and conversation from a 3rd person perspective. Try and hear yourself thinking. Take a deep breath, pause, if you feel you're about to go off on a tangent. Or if you've gone off the track ask your conversation partner if they're still following you. If they do, just continue the way you want to 😁 I have this imaginary rewind button to rewind to a previous subject.
