There is a thread for drinks to get you sleepy and ready for bed.

Next we can list ideas on snackies for little tummies to go with them. These are foods with nutrients specifically to help with sleep!

  • Banana with almond/peanut butter. Both have magnesium that can help reduce stress, relax muscles and the potassium in bananas regulates your heart for better sleep.
  • Plain popcorn. This carb feeds the serotonin in your brain. That is what we want in order to relax and stay asleep!
  • Cottage cheese with tart cherries. The cottage cheese has the protein to repair muscles and is good for metabolism during the long hours of the night when sleeping. Tart cherries naturally have melatonin in them which is the drowsy hormone.
  • Roasted chickpeas. Crunchy protein source to satisfy that hunger that might be keeping you awake at bedtime. Chickpeas are easy to digest for tummies needing to get to sleep.
  • Plain Greek yogurt with blueberries. Calcium in the yogurt feeds the melatonin your body makes naturally for sleepy time. Again, the protein is good to keep you satisfied until morning. Blueberries have all those good antioxidants and fiber to soothe your brain and body from stress.
  • Whole wheat toast with hummus. The chickpea in the hummus has B vitamins which is good for your body to metabolize other nutrients. Wheat has the magnesium we are looking for to improve sleep quality.
  • Oatmeal with cinnamon. A little bit of oatmeal goes a long way to satisfy hunger with all those vitamins, minerals, and fiber. It also a source of melatonin! Put in some cinnamon for sweet cravings you may have before bedtime. That will help balance blood glucose levels.
  • Handful of Nuts. Think peanuts, walnuts, or almonds. These are great for that bit of hunger that may bother you. Nuts have the nutrients to encourage good sleep like magnesium, protein, and melatonin. It doesn't take much with these. So savor each one slowly. Make sure the nuts are low in sodium because salt can disrupt sleep cycle.

Tell us your go to snack for bedtime. It can be sweet, savory, or comforting.
