Let's start this thread for homemade veggie chips/crisps using vegetables you can harvest from your garden or get at the grocery store.Β

PIZZA KALE CHIPS

5 c of kale (more if you want)

1 tomato diced (or tablespoon of tomato paste)

1/4 c nutritional yeast

1/4 red pepper (diced)

2 cloves garlic minced

2 TB lemon juice

2 TB water (I prefer coconut oil to prevent sticking)

1/2 tsp oregano

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 cayenne pepper (skip if you don't like spicy heat)

1/8 fennel seed

INSTRUCTIONS

Wash your kale and strip the leaves off the stems. Stems can be composted or given as a treat to most pets. You can tear the kale leaves into smaller pieces that you like to be as chips then let them dry.

Mix well the rest of the ingredients in a separate bowl into a paste form. Next you will massage the paste all over the kale leaves for a couple of minutes. You can do this with your clean hands or with gloves on. Make sure the kale is coated all over.

Now you can choose to eat this raw like a salad or bake in the oven on the lowest setting. Spread the leaves out a bit like in the photo. A sticky clump won't crisp up evenly like a chip. Check every 15-20 minutes on how your kale chips are drying out. This is a slow gentle process. You don't want to rush baking because you can burn them. A dehydrator is a great alternative that lets you leave the kale chips unattended for several hours.Β
