flutterby Posted May 10, 2023 Report Posted May 10, 2023 So apparantly my tooth decided to hate me and now I have to do one of my least favorite things 😓. I work in health care but I do not understand why I have to be such a scaredy cat of the dentist and the doctor. I want to secretly bring a stuffy or something to ease my nerves tomorrow but I can't convince myself to try it. Anyone else struggle with trying to adult like this?
beanbean Posted May 10, 2023 Report Posted May 10, 2023 Hopefully you can get it fixed and it won't be as bad as you think it is
Guest Runa Posted May 10, 2023 Report Posted May 10, 2023 Aw, I'm sorry flutterby. I hate going to the dentist and I have no real reason to be so afraid. Same with going to see a doctor. Do you have a small stuffie? Perhaps one you could keep in your pocket so that only you would know it was there. I have a little mouse that's that fits in the palm of my hand which can be comforting. Or I take a book and try to read. Waiting is the worst part for me, I think. Yeah, you're not alone in feeling this way. It's really good that you're going, good job! Make sure you reward yourself in someway when you're done.  😊
Guest Runa Posted May 11, 2023 Report Posted May 11, 2023 Have you been yet? Did it go okay?  😊
Guest Erickwcurls Posted May 16, 2023 Report Posted May 16, 2023 Hope your appointment went well. I've never been afraid of the dentist also lucky to be blessed with good teeth. Dental workers want to make you as comfortable and accommodating as possible. If you have fear and misgivings, just let them know.  Tell them to explain each step.   Good health!
flutterby Posted June 5, 2023 Author Report Posted June 5, 2023 Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I did bring a small stuffy for my second appointment and learned that apparently I do not like the sound of drills inside my mouth😓. My daddy also vetoed by idea to get a gold tooth for my new tooth. 1

It helped to drown out the noise and they said that if there was too much pain or if I needed them to stop, I could just raise my hand/arm. I would put in earbuds and close my eyes. Now when I have just regular cleanings, I don't use airbuds anymore but it's great to know it's an option. You should definitely ask to do that as well and they're usually pretty understanding. If they strangely say no, asking to have just 1 earbud might be an option.
KayleeAdams Posted September 20, 2023 Report Posted September 20, 2023 Bringing a stuffy sounds like a cute and comforting idea, and if it helps ease your nerves, why not give it a try?
