I suffer from nightmares and tonight I had a humdinger of a nightmare 😔 I woke up shaking so hard and needing to wrap up in my blanket. Got music on too so maybe the scaries will go away soon.

I'm scared to go back to sleep 😴

Whenever I have nightmares I curl up on my Daddy's chest. His heartbeat and warmth help me calm down so I can get back to sleep.

Thank you both. Daddy has to be up at 3am I may wait until then and just call him. Lol I woke him up early last night. I have to be kind and let him sleep sometimes 😂

Em I take it reading a story book to you before you fall asleep don't help? Like maybe Fantasy book. Narnia for example.

Nightmares are the worst.   I get them along.  Journaling can help.  Some of you write them down in a locked diary keeps them there and you can tell your daddy with it cause repeating them can hurt.  Happy  books from your childhood can help.  Ones you associate with Happy memories.

Sooooo I’ve been having horrible, cold-sweat-producing, multiple-times-a-night nightmares for a couple years now — and my doctor has me taking several medications to help specially prevent nightmares, Prazosin being the main one. I’m still at a low dose and slowly ramping it up, but it certainly hasn’t made them worse! 😂

Maybe something to consider if you have persistent nightmares that impact your quality of life! I had no idea meds like this existed, so just sharing in case you wanna bring it up to your own doctor! 💖

Thank you for the information, I'll ask my doctor what he thinks.

Reviving this thread as I woke up from a nightmare that had me kicking and yelling. 😞

My default reaction is to stay frozen in bed, hiding under the covers. This time, I made myself get up but realized I was still anxious and pacing. So I had to be intentional with my actions and do things I know calm me even if I didn’t want to.  Brushed my hair, stretched, pet my pets on their little heads, and sat down with a piece of cake, a plushie, and turned on a comfort show (The Simpsons).

I just have to trust the process and let my body regulate again.

Sorry to hear that you have been having Nightmares. I used to, but now I fall asleep watching youtube videos or cartoons every night and that seems to help. It helps to calm my brain before sleep.

Maybe write down each nightmare in a book and see what you can do during the day to stop them happening? Like drawing the nightmare and writing how it made you feel?

nightmares definitely suck especially repeating ones! Maybe find some stories on YouTube to listen to or ask your Caregiver to record some for you or make you a pre recorded comfort message you can listen to if don’t want to wake them up
