littlefae Posted March 29, 2023 Report Posted March 29, 2023 So I’m sure we have some coders or social media savvy people on here that could develop a DDLG forum app! Just because messaging on this site is difficult and on mobile you have to log in for every session. Anyone know how we could start this? Maybe the site owners have something to add? Let me know your thoughts or what you could contribute to make it happen in the replies 😊 1
littlefae Posted March 30, 2023 Author Report Posted March 30, 2023 I believe it's necessary because some parts of messages get cut off, I've been noticing that trend. The website also lags. As well as, having an app would build the community. I will try out the PWA though, thanks for the tip.
Erasmeus71 Posted March 30, 2023 Report Posted March 30, 2023 One more thing on what Kay said. About Discord. it is a red flag especially if they want you to buy stuff for them. Not giving name of person. (This person got me on discord. Wanted me to buy diapers. Card was good for USA only. Yet for some reason they the gift card would not work for them. Even though they said they were in Chicago, IL) Now knowing I had epilepsy I was getting messages on discord from this one person. They kept plugging my number in. A red flag. They did it three times. Messages in middle of night my time 2-3 am which was 11am 12 pm in Nigeria. Also aske for a streamer card for Wizard 101. Now why does one need that when a WIzard101 gift card can give you a membership for a month. They wanted money. I disabled my discord!
shadowrider Posted March 30, 2023 Report Posted March 30, 2023 We've had this discussion a few times over the years and all the things already mentioned above still stand true. And last time we checked apple and google aren't really ok with apps for kink in their stores, especially ones as misunderstood as ours. Add to that the fact that having an app available opens the doors even wider to attract more attention from minors, predators, and non kink friendly people that might otherwise not know we are here. None of which we want hanging around here. If we want to grow the community we need to start from within. We need people that not just join but join in. Post, share, learn and grow as a community and not just random people that happen to belong to the same site. We have clubs to help us grow closer based off our hobbies. We have a chatroom that if it ever becomes active it will be upgraded to be even better. We have everything we need here to have a strong, caring community. Everything but more participation from members. To be honest I would rather have a home with 50 really close people that share and care for each other than a community with 1M strangers that log in and know nothing about each other. I think we need to focus on the strength and bond of the community rather than how far our reach is. Thats my 2 cents on that. 5 3 1 3
littlefae Posted March 30, 2023 Author Report Posted March 30, 2023 Lol! Well it seems like everyone is saying “noooooooo” so I suppose that settles that question.
ZandraMeow Posted March 30, 2023 Report Posted March 30, 2023 I completely agree with Shadow. 🥰 Regarding community development, there is another issue with building APP. Typing on a phone can be inconvenient and may hinder the depth of discussion. This can lead to a higher proportion of shorter and shallower content. The web version has an advantage in addressing this issue. After all, here is not a dating website.🤣 1
littlefae Posted March 30, 2023 Author Report Posted March 30, 2023 thanks everyone for your thoughtful discussion and for explaining your reasoning. ❤️ 2
SadyDaddy Posted February 15, 2024 Report Posted February 15, 2024 Sorry about gravedigging this 1y old thread. At some points I agree with littlefae. There are some lags and a longer cookie policy would not harm the security (depends on the lenght) and making things more comfortable. The website / forums software itself is "mobile optimized" as per the developer (https://invisioncommunity.com/), but I'm sure we could do better. As much as I love having apps for nearly everything, I would suggest - IF some work will be done - to work on optimizing the the site for mobile devices. It has less maintenance, is easier to do and the outcome is more or less the same. There are even recommendations about when having an App and when working with a responsive (moblie optimized) website: Quote If your mobile goals are primarily marketing-driven, or if your aim is to deliver content and establish a broad mobile presence that can be easily maintained, shared between users, and found on search engines, then the a mobile-friendly responsive website is the logical choice.
