(Dom/CG) Trying to figure out where I fit in

Hi!

Newish here, first post outside of introductions, wanted to see if I could pick some brains, hear from others experiences, get feedback, etc.

Recently met someone (F/little) who turned out to be into the lifestyle, it was a bit of a surprise honestly. We inadvertently learned this after getting to know one another, even had quite a bit in common outside of the lifestyle. Long story short, I ended up developing a bit of a crush and def would have loved to see how things developed, however due to our environment, she wasn’t able to pursue things further. Bummer… 😞 

This experience made me realize how maybe I’ve been looking in the wrong places, and brings me to my whole dilemma, Im not sure where I fit into the lifestyle. I’m very much a Soft Dom/Caregiver but not entirely sure about the daddy/parental figure part. I love the idea of taking care of someone, protecting them, sharing my experiences and helping them to grow as a person. Safe space kind of thing. My question to everyone, is this common in the space? Anyone else ever dealt/struggled with this? How would I even explain that to potential partners lol. Also I’m hesitant to explore it a bit further as I don’t feel like that would be fair to potential partners who maybe want more of the daddy/little aspect to the relationship.

Just a little background. Previously I’ve been engaged in the community on Fetlife (5 years) which leaves A LOT to be desired.  Interacting with her over the last few months outside of there, made me realize that maybe this space is more where I should be engaged, instead of the general BDSM space. It also made me kinda miss searching for a partner >.<
