This is an old story I heard as a child and it stuck with me so I thought I would share with y'all.

A psychiatrist wanted to do an experiment so he got 2 kids to volunteer. The first he took to a room full of brand new toys. The little boy stood skeptically in the doorway of the room full of toys not sure if he should enter. But with a little prodding and hearing, “Go on in, they are all yours for the day” he finally walked over to the toys and began playing. The doctor left him there and closed the door.

The second child he placed in a room full of piles of manure and closed the door.

After a couple hours he went and checked on the first child. He found him in the middle of the room crying. When asked what was wrong he said "the train didn't choo choo like it should and the plane didn't fly. A wheel fell off the car and I had no water for the boats and no dirt or sand for the trucks. I wanna go home!"

He thought about this child being so sad and then remembered the child in the room full of manure. In a panic he bolted down the hall and swung the door to that room open. He stopped in his tracks when he saw the small girl digging and flinging manure everywhere with a huge smile on her face. Covered from head to toe she looked as happy as any kid could be just digging and giggling. He was frozen in disbelief and took a minute to regain enough composure to speak to her. When asked why she was so happy she simply smiled and said "with this much poop there has to be a pony in here somewhere" and went back to digging.

In life it's all about how you look at things and being able to look for the good in any situation. Yes there are things that suck but try not to dwell on the suckage too long.

Too often I ask how someone's day went and I hear them say "I had a terrible day". When actually they had a terrible 5 minutes or 30 minutes or whatever and they allowed themselves to dwell on it all day. Bad situations come and go but don't let a bad 5 minutes cost you an entire day of possibly happiness.

You'll never see the silver lining on those clouds if you keep looking down. Head up, chest out. You've made it this far which means you're resilient and you got this.

I love this because I love animals. You know I'd be the girl looking for that pony! 😄

I was thinking last week how the zoo I help with has a smell and gets messy. I grew up without pets because my mother detested their stench but when I walk in this little place the odors trigger my brain with happy feelings. I'm about to see all my little friends, love on them, and be fulfilled caring for them. 😁 I don't mind that they get stinky and have poo for me to clean up. Because when I'm done, I can shower all that gunk off. Then everyone is tidy and happy to play.

This is a great story. I heard this as well a long while back. All too often, we let one bad thing ruin the out come of a great day. In my line of work, I have many coworkers who all it takes is one bad customer and their day is ruined. I repeatedly tell them not to take it personally. To look at things from a different point. I don’t know who I’m talking to, or what they are dealing with in life. I don’t know why they are the way they are. For a brief moment in this day, I will do the best I can to help them or make it better, whether I can or can’t, I’ll try. At the end of my interaction, I will never hear from them again. So there is nothing for me to keep invested in those negative emotions. I did my best and I’m proud of myself for that and keeping my integrity.

You won’t know the impact you may have on another, so do your best to be a positive one.
