I know this probably is not nice or fair to say... but I need to vent today. I hope this acceptable. So I got to work today, my head boss who works in office comes to me in private and says I need to remove all my Christmas and winter decorations from my work desk area, because it offended someone in the office and that since I am going on vacation next week (starting 12/21/2022) and won't be in the office till after the new year it needs to come down before Friday except for 2 items and they need to go home with me on Tuesday night. I have had the stuff up since the day after Thanksgiving and all of a sudden, it's an issue. But also, I believe the office is about to move lots of people around to different desks as the musical chairs goes to get a fresh look and to help certain people out on the call floor by putting them near the veterans of the call floor. smh. as Tiny Tim states... "God bless us, everyone"

but when it came to Halloween decorations it was fine to have those up (and certain individuals still have them still up)

If there is nothing in the employee handbook stating you cannot have them I would leave them up. Just take them when your week is done and enjoy your time off.

I have seen jobs where you couldn't decorate your area with any personal items. But that was stated in the interview and everyone had to abide by those rules even the boss. In that case it's understandable.

I won't deliberately offend anyone but at the same time I won't give up my freedoms or customs to appease someone else.

It's only fair if they apply the rule to everyone so that no one puts up anything that might potentially be offensive. If the rule doesn't apply to everyone and every instance, then screw the request.
