Annie (pt 1)

It all started that full moon in June. Death and life forced into existence with an undeniable boom. Her screams and the little ones mingled into one, until it was silent. Still. Until one day it was not. Her tiny feet pattering in and out of the cove. Smeared with mud and grass, always happiest at her dirtiest. She grew and grew but nothing seemed to change. Her sweet voice ringing harmonies beside the candlelight. Dance and sway in the moonbeam’s rays. Howl and growl and embrace starlight. Spin and laugh into the sky. Oh sweet Annabel Lee, baby Annie.

20 years, and Annie’s voice and body were the only things different now. Same green blue eyes, flecked golden. Freckles and pale pink skin. Same cloth draped over a plumper body. But the innocence, the whimsey never left her.

She sat on the stone floor braiding her hair, beside the cooking fire.  Lips pursed just so, eyes staring into a world no one else could see. Past firelight. Past the world surrounding you and me.

She giggles and jumps up, almost hitting her head on the stone above. “I wish I could be as free as the breeze!” She ducks out the entry way and spins beneath the trees. Humming and singing the phrase over and over until a melody develops.

Today is market day, she knows this because the yellow ribbon is on the tree just there. She gathered the baskets she’d woven from golden forest brush, and placed them into the cart. She patted her creamy brown mare and attached the cart to her. “Good girl, Pepper, if you’re good, We will stop by the orchard on the way home. A treat for both of us!” Annie jumped onto the horse’s bare back and clicked her tongue, encouraging Pepper to lead the way. “Market day!”

I was just telling / asking my girl TODAY if she could participate in the club cause it’s so dry . But not anymore , thanks to yew ! 🤗🤗🤗🤗
