Family project : Buddy’s new home !

As many of you know , I have made a lot of little furry friends on my daily walks. One of those cats in particular has followed us home and won’t leave. (Meaning he sleeps at our house every night now.) I named him Buddy probably the third or fourth time after seeing him. He just looked like…. A good buddy. 

We ran into a couple issues with Buddy deciding our house is now his house. The first issue was , the garage is still really fucking cold. We can’t just lock him in the garage either , so we were leaving the door garage cracked open for him to come and go as he pleases. This lets cold air in and makes our house less warm and it also runs the risk of raccoons coming into the garage. As much as I love raccoons , they would possibly fight and hurt Buddy. 

The other issue is that I have two cats already , Lector and Hannibal. They’re indoor only cats unless they’re on a leash while they wear their harness with it. So letting them into the garage while it’s cracked open was a no go , letting Buddy into our house is a no go because we haven’t been able to safely take him to the vet yet. I have no idea how he would react to a crate even if he lets me hold him all the time. 
 

With winter time really kicking up we had to figure something out. It gets to way below freezing temps where we live and we couldn’t just leave him in the garage and have our door cracked all winter long. 
 

Our family solution ? Build him a house ! 
 

Dad , @Expired and myself spent an entire day building this house for Buddy. I still have to paint it and make a sign , but Dad said it’ll be too cold the next few days to try to paint it on the fresh wood. So we’ll have progress pictures ones it’s “officially done”. We insulated it , put a roof on that can open and close for easy cleaning and changing his blankets ,  food and water , Brother put an old pumpkin light in there too so it’s not too dark at night. He really liked our garage door mat so we gave him that and the blanket he was already using on his chair in the garage because it has his scent on it and tonight I donated my Hatchimals blanket as well. 

This was a really fun family project where we got to do a lot of bonding through sharing good ideas and solutions for building , and watching something really cool come together for our new adopted family familiar. 🥰

We love Buddy and this home is meant for him , but any cat is welcome at our home.

I love this idea. So many babies out there are in need of amazing sweet hearted people like you to offer just a little warm house from the upcoming cold weather.

He looks sooo happy with it too. Amazing work! I wish I was good at making stuffs like that!!

It was a really awesome project that we are all really proud of , the three of us all have our ups and downs which is realistic but I like being able to show how different dynamics can work and work well together 💖

Whenever civilization collapses the three of us will be able to survive pretty damn well building houses and what not ! Hehehe. 

Dads obsessed with Buddy and put up one of our security cameras facing Buddy’s house so he can watch him come and go and see what he’s doing in there 😅

I will make sure to post when his house is painted and he has his sign up !

Buddy update ! 
 

So about a week or so ago we had an issue with Buddy , not his fault at all but we were still so worried. When we built his house we put some cameras on the inside and outside to make sure other cats weren’t bullying him out (like Creamsicle). I tried to have Dad send me the video footage or pictures of what happened but all of the footage expires within a specific time frame. 

A fucking opossum went into Buddy’s house WHILE Buddy was in there ! 😓 At first it was fine , they sniffed each other and the opossum was eating some of Buddy’s food but Buddy ended up getting SUPER freaked out by his visitor (can you blame him ? Lol) and when he tried to walk past the opossum , Buddy swiped at him a couple times and ran off. We shooed away the opossum , but we didn’t see Buddy for a while. Dad was super worried about him and sad , Brother was also pretty bummed out. 

Well I went alone on my walk this morning and guess who came running up to me ? 

Buddy boy ! I saw him and said “Buddy !?” He ran right up for cuddles , I gave him some treats and he followed me all the way home again. He’s safe and sound now , we gave him more blankets , food and fresh water and Dad put up a towel to block his door a little bit more from the wind and things like opossums coming in again. 
 

We’ve got the live feed camera in there still so I’ll give live updates and hopefully videos of Buddy soon. And if I get that freakin opossum on camera I’ll show you all.

@Andriel_Isilien it seemed like the only thing he wanted was Buddy’s food ! Lol little fatty. We moved Buddy’s food on top of his house and showed him where it is. I have to look into more tips but I don’t wanna hurt the opossum !

Buddy has a new brother. 
 

He followed us home just like Buddy did and never left. I really thought he would just leave in the middle of the night but when Dad went to leave for work … Midnight popped up and started meowing and running circles around his feet. 
 

My house is turning into a homeless shelter for all the street cats in town.. and I have no issues with it at all.
