how do i add people as friends so that i can message them?

i see the follow tab and message tab but when i try send message it says you must be friends first.  under the old site it was easy to   find the request friend tab now i cant seem to find it.  thanks for the help

To be able to message users now, you have to follow them and they have to accept your follow. Then, they have to follow you and you have to accept their follow.

Wuupsie, I had not realised I need to follow someone back in order them to be able to message me. So, good it was (probably again) brought up
