Ok so I watched the movie Julie and Julia some time back and thought hmmm that could be fun and interesting, with a different book. For those that have not seen the movie I'll give the basic story.

"Frustrated with a soul-killing job, New Yorker Julie Powell (Amy Adams) embarks on a daring project: she vows to prepare all 524 recipes in Julia Childs' landmark cookbook, "Mastering the Art of French Cooking." Intertwined with Julie's story is the true tale of how Julia Child (Meryl Streep) herself conquered French cuisine with passion, fearlessness, and plenty of butter."

A little of my back story. My mom was amazing in the kitchen. She taught me how to decorate cakes and we learned chocolate molding together and she never met a recipe she wouldn't tackle head on. Her rolls were on the menu of every holiday table and I regret not learning her technique on all things bread. I was busy teaching myself how to build and man a grill.

I have been getting back to the basics in a lot of my cooking and daily things but haven't embraced bread yet. So I think I am going to dust off an old cookbook I have that is dedicated to bread and try to do maybe one recipe a week. More if possible but lets be real, thats a lotta bread for one person to eat.

I'll post a pic and the info on the book when I get a chance and if y'all want the recipes I can post them and pics as I go.

@shadowrider I love this! I do hope you will share your creations and recipes as you go. I look forward to seeing them!

My son recently took an artisan bread making class, and the bread he brought home was amazing. It was so good, he made me more for my birthday. Hehe

My grandmother used to make homemade bread as well. Nothing compares… and there’s nothing better than the smell of fresh baked bread throughout your house as it bakes.

Been really hectic and weird lately but I did manage to attempt the first recipe in the book.

The recipe had me mix all the dry ingredients first then add the wet and knead. After an hour and a half or so of waiting I go to get the resting dough only to find out my yeast did not bloom. What I had was a brick not good for anything so I cooked it and gave it to the pigs.

I'll retry this recipe but from now on I'll be proofing my yeast no matter what the recipe says. The date on the yeast was still good and water temp was right so I guess it just wasn't meant to be lol.
