How to unlock life's cheat code or glitch on regrowing veggies that you bought from the grocery store. This I have been messing around the past couple of years for fun. Kitchen scraps can be saved to grow again in a water dish or you can save the seeds to hold onto for spring. All you need is a bit of counter space, preferably by your kitchen sink, and shallow cups or dishes to hold water.

Since I have guinea pigs I am always buying fresh vegetables so I like to keep the ends of lettuce or celery in a water dish. Some regrow and some don't. I think of my elementary school days when we did experiments in science class like this. It's cool to see new leaves growing and, if you are lucky enough, roots shooting out! Green onions I have had the most success because those still have the roots intact. One time I had potatoes that began sprouting and getting wrinkly in my fridge because I forgot about them. Instead of throwing them away, I cut them into smaller pieces and buried them outside. I then had several cute baby potato plants growing all summer for free!

The basics I got from this blog that I highly recommend reading over.Β 15 Foods You Can Regrow from Scraps - The Soccer Mom Blog

Don't throw away those old potatoes! Or those romaine lettuce ends! There are lots of foods you can regrow from scraps β€” it's easy, free, and you don't need a lot of space! Keep reading for a list of 15 plants to grow from scraps to keep fresh produce ready all year long!

I also love regrowing carrot tops because my guinea pigs can enjoy them as snacks. Btw, carrot greens are totally edible for humans too. Recently I learned that you can't regrow the carrot roots, but the tops can make seeds for you to plant. Another way to save money!

So, even though this isn't the growing season, you can have some fun trying out these methods to regrow some veggies. It can add a bit of green to your kitchen and maybe a snackΒ πŸ˜‹Β Now fruits I haven't tried regrowing yet like avocados, pineapple, strawberries, etc. If you have stories to share about that or more on veggies then don't hesitate to comment!

I do this too. I have several containers with green onions growing in them. I go out and snip off however much of the greens I need and they grow back.

I have 5 pineapples growing in milk jugs right now. I just twisted the crown off and removed a couple layers of the lower leaves and stuck it in soil and they are growing nicely. I'll probably bring them inside tonight since we have a cold snap coming.

This works with all kinds of things and you can do it almost anywhere.

We do this with green onions as well! πŸ–€

I once did this with an avocado pit, just for fun. I photographed his progress for like, an entire year. My FaceBook friends found it amusing. We named our lil avocado friend β€œHoratio”, and he grew like crazy! πŸ₯‘Β
