I love to color. I recently bought a stack of spooky-cute Halloween coloring books, so I can do a “31 Days of Halloween Coloring Challenge” all through October. 🖤🎃

@LilDevilCat Aw, thank you! 💜🧸

Your drawing is soooo cute! It even has the glittery eyes like the lil stuffies!! I love it! 😍

Last night, a friend of mine sent me a huge box of Halloween cookies, so I sat and ate some lil bat cookies while I colored a bat.

I'll share my drawing process that I thoroughly enjoy as my outlet now that it's back. I prefer sketching with a mechanical pencil because legit graphite pencils are a PAIN to sharpen every 10 seconds. I like to have a fine point!

A website I highly recommend for pose references is POSEMANIACS - Royalty free 3d pose reference for all artists (SFW but be aware the models don't have skin. It's muscle, sinew, and bone). This place is such an AMAZING tool and it's free! There is so much you can use to practice, challenge yourself, or find a quick pose for help. From there, I found a particular model I wanted to use as reference as my base. This is fanart that I drew so I used other photo references from the show for features/details of the character Donatello - Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. 🐢💜 And the 2nd is Kaladin from the Way of Kings series 💫 With drawing, smudges can be such a bitch and a tip I picked up is to have a sheet of scrap paper underneath my hand as I draw.

Next is my favorite step which is inking! It's SO satisfying as I polish my lines and clean up the page from smudges. I think micron or inkline pens the best as they come in various tip thickness. They don't smear and they don't bleed through the paper but still give a permanent line. The bolder and heavier lines I went over with 08 (,50mm) and the finer or thinner lines I did in 03 (.35mm). You don't need a massive set of pens. Just the basics 03, 05, and 08 sizes. Erase all my pencil marks and touch up the ink some more. I used a scanner to copy my image. Then I upload it on a free photo editor LunaPic | Free Online Photo Editor - Edit, Adjust & Create. (SFW) This is simply to tweak the contrast that gets my drawing nice and crisp. I always like to save a digital copy of my art. In case I mess up the coloring, I can always print it out again. The only downside to that is printer ink can smear when coloring.

Last is color and blend with Prismacolor pencils! 🙌 I stick to 3 or 4 shades at most for each color because too many layers will ruin it (in my opinion). It's fun to assign characters their specific colors according to the names on the pencils. For example: Donnie here is a nice "Olive Green" hue 🐢 Kaladin's got some Terra Cotta to his skin tone. I use a scrap of paper to test because blending and layering colors will change how they appear. There is a colorless pencil (not white) meant specifically for blending and that's where the *glitter*MAGIC*glitter* happens. It's so cool to see how much that amplifies everything! Never underestimate the potential of blending! I add tiny bits of white and black color to make things pop but don't rely heavy on that. Tidy up ink lines where needed, erase any edges, and done!

Coloring with prisma I learned from observing another artist and with practice. I may just re-create the step-by-step tutorial that taught me all those years ago with my next drawing. 😁

Here is the step-by-step process I do for coloring with Prisma pencils. It is layers upon layers starting with the lightest shade as the base. Knowing where shadows go is an ongoing practice. That's the best advice I can give; practice and keep learning! I leave spots open for the paler hues to show through. I want to avoid using black and white like a crutch for shading.

1- Light Peach

2- Deco Orange

3- Terra Cotta (LOVE this hue because it gives an excellent tanned look that is fleshy)

4- Burnt Ochre or Sienna Brown (sometimes I use one or the other just to mix things up)

5- Blend with colorless pencil

After this I MIGHT touchup with White to highlight bright spots and maybe some Blush Pink depending on the character. If I think some enhancement is needed to make the color pop more, I'll color in a bit of Dark Umber for the darkest shadow on the skin.
