How do you deal with nightmares?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I have a lot of nightmares that wake me up and keep me up through the night. I don't have a daddy to help me relax and stop worrying about the nightmares so I can go back to sleep. My stuffies don't help that much and my first instinct is to reach for someone to cuddle into them but that isn't possible right now.

So how can I take care of myself? Does anyone else deal with nightmares and dont have a cg to help them? Any help would be appreciated 😊

Either wake up my daddy and he helps me or I get up and find snacks and put on a comfort show and cuddle up with my favorite stuffy I very much remind myself that I'm just sleeping and that I'm awake now and that everything's going to be okay and when I try to go back to sleep I try to visualize what I want to dream about that way I kind of set the tone as I fall asleep

Hi Babybleu!

I've also been in that spot for a while! Nightmares and sleep paralysis demons (those are so scary lol). Since you don't have a cg, I recommend talking about it to a friend just to get it out of you for a bit, or playing a cute sleeping playlist like maybe an Animal Crossing rain music compilation playlist. Also! Like Littlemiddle said, happy thoughts and scenarios as you fall asleep :) Hope you'll be able to sleep peacefully soon!

I'm not sure what I would do without my Daddy to be honest. If He's staying the night He strokes my hair, holds me and speaks softly and soothingly. If He's not over He has me call Him and we video chat until I'm calm. We've been together for almost the past five years so I've just gotten so used to it not sure what I'd do otherwise.

Sometimes I have nightmares and end up having to get up drink some water and read for a bit, or watch TV. I seem to be more prone to waking from nightmares when I'm dehydrated or it's really warm at night. So I try to make sure I drink enough water a couple of hours before bedtime. I don't know if anyone else experiences that or if I'm just weird. Lol.

I don't have nightmares too often, but when I do they are usually accompanied by sleep paralysis. After I have an episode, I try to "reset" myself. I'll get up, go to the bathroom, maybe splash some water on my face, I even brush my teeth again sometimes. I'll then turn on a nightlight if it's not on already, get into bed, and put on a comfort show or video. I find this sometimes helps me get the bad dream out of my head, and I can settle down as if it's the first time I've laid down that night.

I get this problem only once in a while but last night I kept waking up from a nightmare that zombies were trying to eat me 😣 It was horrible!! Since I sleep alone I self soothe with my weighted blanket and squishing myself in between pillows and stuffies. Being covered up makes me feel safe. If it's really bad, I play some soothing music or ASMRs from my phone to distract my mind as I go back to sleep.

Nightmares are three kinds for a Little I think

1. Recurrent nightmares : they are the ones that arise again and again. The theme of the nightmares are always identical. They are related to fears of the little from their early life. Like scary stories or scary events the little has been told.

2. Induced nightmares : they are the ones that arise from engaging in reading, watching or seeing scary events including movies and articles during the evening to night time before sleep.

3. Painful nightmares : they are related to past bad relationships the little may had and the memories of those bad relationships.

Depending on the kind of nightmares you get, the three rules for managing nightmares are,

1. Read and watch funny, relaxing and comedy movie, stories or music during evening before sleep. Don't watch scary things during evening time.

2. Do lots of coloring and drawing. Particularly during day time. Use vivid colors.

3. Practice self-love which means reading affirmations like, 'I love myself, 'I am doing good', 'I am proud of myself'.

@IndiaDaddyDom 1and 3 definitely apply to me sometimes! I should try coloring more and practicing self care 😁
