clumsy_little Posted June 10, 2022 Report Posted June 10, 2022 (edited) It's the beginning of monsoon here with frequent thunderstorms. They seem to push me in little space and little me isn't good at handling it. Adult me doesn't have any problem with thunders and is actually quite fascinated with it but little me hates it. Any tips on how not to slip in little space and if I do, how to stay calm during storm since I don't have any doms Edited June 22, 2022 by clumsy_little
DeepBlueIII Posted June 10, 2022 Report Posted June 10, 2022 I always suggest some mindfulness practices. Focus on breathing and doing body scans seems to work. That allows you to notice the thunder, but also to let it wash over you. Of course, it takes time and practice to get it right so it might not be a quick solution. 4
Knickerbockers Posted June 10, 2022 Report Posted June 10, 2022 (edited) I don’t know if this will help, but when I’m scared I snuggle under my favorite blankie with my teddy. Then I imagine my teddy comes to life and he protects me and never lets anything happen to me. When I’m scared of the dark it really helps. I imagine he fights away all the closet monsters while I sleep, but you can never see him do it because he’s too fast! Maybe if you slip into little space something like that might help alleviate some of the fear? Edited June 10, 2022 by Knickerbockers 4
Andriel_Isilien Posted June 11, 2022 Report Posted June 11, 2022 Headphones, maybe? Noise cancelling ones are perfect for these kinds of situations. You can listen to some lofi hip hop mixes or an audio book to take your mind off the storm. 4
ScarletBaby Posted June 14, 2022 Report Posted June 14, 2022 Lavender helps to keep calm. Diffusing lavender oil allows the stress and anxiety relief to permeate the air. It might be a good idea to look at the Little side of why it’s scaring you and the adult side of why it fascinates you. A list of the two perspectives can help give an idea as to why you’re being triggered now and not handling it as well. As mentioned before, distraction techniques that block out the thunder can be helpful with the regression side for now. Monsoon season is coming up for me too, first in my own place, so I’ll be trying these too 3
WigglyBun Posted June 15, 2022 Report Posted June 15, 2022 I loooove thunderstorms when I am big too, but when I am little it's a completely different experience! The few times it thunders here and I am little, I have turned on a movie on my tablet and also turned on the noise cancelling on my headphones and listened to the movie with those. Last night I got in the bath and turned on the fan, then turned on brown noise on my phone and turned that up and just floated in the bath and relaxed. :] 3
Vampiress Posted June 15, 2022 Report Posted June 15, 2022 Noise cancelling headphones are a dream! I don't need them for thunderstorms but I use them for other things and I love them. If you can't afford those then I highly suggest getting some ear plugs! You can find those fairly cheap in the over the counter section of most stores like grocery stores and drug stores. 2
Daddyslilangel93 Posted June 21, 2022 Report Posted June 21, 2022 We recently had some rough storms come through here in USA east coast, Honestly mindfulness and preparedness is key. I had a anxiety attack when a tornado was coming our way once, but my mom kept me calm through it and it didn't end up coming here. It went back up into the sky. Call me a blessed little . But yes for typical thunderstorms, headphones, (not plugged into outlet), unplugged laptop or phone to type to someone on during storm. helps me a lot. Especially when the power goes out.
Ree Ree Posted February 22, 2023 Report Posted February 22, 2023 There was a hailstorm yesterday and I got nervous and scared and even from afar Daddy was able to calm me and let me know everything was going ro be okay.
MissNMTX Posted February 22, 2023 Report Posted February 22, 2023 Again, I feel like like the odd person out. I absolutely love thunderstorms! Especially at night. So relaxing and if there's lightening...oh yeah! It's a total vibe & mood! 2

CodeName: Trouble Posted March 11, 2023 Report Posted March 11, 2023 I'm a big fan of rain and can't help but get excited when the wind begins to pick up before a storm - it makes me irrationally happy and energized. HOWEVER the second thunder is more than a whisper on the horizon the fun stops completely for me. I'm very sensitive to loud noises and they send me right into the scariest corners of little space and bad memories. When storms roll through I often go out to watch them approach so I know they're coming, but then I go inside and close all the windows/curtains and turn on some music, a twitch stream, or a fun movie that I wont be able to hear the majority of the storm through. Thunder buddies can help too, be it blankies, stuffies, puppies, friends or significant others. Just texting or calling with someone can help allot and keep your mind busy. It can help some with storm anxiety to have a storm bag ready; candles, matches, a flashlight, snacks, a battery radio or a way to charge your phone without power could help give some peace of mind. I also make sure my switch is charged before big storms just incase the power is out and I need to distract myself. This will be my first full year in Florida and I'm not excited for rainy/hurricane season 😬
