Communal Garden

Recommended Posts

When I wrote about our village here I mentioned the communal garden. I think we need to see the garden so we all know what it looks like. So here is where I think we should post pics of any and everything we plant. From flowers to fruits and veggies. Even trees and shrubs are welcome here. If you plant it we want to see it. Even if you didn't plant it but just happened to see it growing. Share a pic if you think it is pretty or awesome.

Welcome to our garden.

I just made a few of these planters from 55 gallon (208 Liter) barrels.

Now I need some soil and I am ready to plant.

I unfortunately don't even remotely have a green thumb, but I love taking photos of flowers and plants.

My Daddy and I have been growing seedlings! They are in little seedling pots now, but soon, when the weather is nicer, we will be planting them outside.

We have mostly vegetables, but we have some herbs, too!

I'll post a picture here when I plant them!

I started gardening and thoroughly enjoying it! This is what I so far: one flower from a bee pollinator kit, herbs and lettuces for me and my critters.

Since summer is here every time I buy a pineapple, which is quite often lately, I plant the top.

These 2 are starting to show growth and turn a more pretty green so I think they will be ok. I have 2 more planted and 2 more in the sink waiting to be cut up.

I love pineapple if you couldn't tell lol

I also have a lot of green onions in jugs on that table. Just cut the root end off and stick it in soil and they will start to grow again. Easy and fun and you can snip the greens off and eat them and they grow new ones. Perfect small space garden.

I have a window well outside my room to mess around with. 🌱 Winston Butternubs is inspecting it for me and for scale (he is a big guinea pig). I'm debating whether to grow veggies and herbs in it, let weeds and grass grow for my piggies to enjoy, or to let it be a rock garden with decorations.

He is too cute. After seeing him in there I'm imagining a milk jug bottom buried flush with the soil with some pretty rocks in it. Fill with water to create a small pond for drinking water. Then all kinds of plants and veggies for the piggies to forage and play in. Their own habitat for sun and fun.

ooooo, I never thought about a tiny pond!! That would be adorable for the piggies!! 😊 Yes, some foraging plants for them would be awesome!

Update on my window well project. I scraped off what paint flakes I could, put down fresh soil (fertilizer mixed in courtesy of my guinea pigs), and then the grass. I had permission to dig up some hearty patches of grass to transport over into the well. My bois checked it out afterwards. 😁 I think they approve! 🌱 There is a bit of a grate cover above to deter any other unwanted animals from going in.

Next is to decorate it with some mushroom houses, gnomes, and fairies. 🧚‍♂️🍄 I'm going to try scattering dandelion seeds in there too. I'm really excited as this is a lovely treat for my guinea pigs to enjoy in the warm evenings. This spot is facing east so the blazing setting sun won't bother them.

@Andriel_Isilien Awww they will have so much to explore! Can you hide little treats for them around the area? 😊

That is a cute idea, like pieces of carrot 😊
