Why Do So Many People Post and Say They Want Monogamy But Really Don’t?

Not much more to say here that the question doesn’t imply...I just can’t quite seem to understand why people even bother to say they want to be monogamous when they honestly just want to “play the field” or be “poly”. Why is it so hard for people to be honest about this specific thing these days?

I would venture to guess that someone who was not honest about poly was likely dishonest about other things.

I understand your frustration though. Honest communication is hard when its only one side.

Unfortunately there are some people on these sites that aren't here for anything serious or monogamous, and like to take advantage of others who are, just to see what they can get away with. Or that's how it seems to me.

I'm sorry that you have had those experiences. I've learned my lesson unfortunately, that I have to be fiercely protective of my little side from predatorial types

This might ruffle some feathers, but I honestly think people who are like that are just looking for someone else and aren't happy with who they're with. But don't want to give them up until they find better.

Honestly, there seem to be just as many people who claim to be polyamorous when they have zero intention of ever having more than one partner. I think there are a lot of people willing to say anything to find a partner so they aren't alone.

Unfortunately, things rarely work out when monogamous people date poly folks and vice versa.
