PigtailPrincess Posted July 14, 2021 Report Posted July 14, 2021 Hello all! Pigtail here! We have been hard at work behind the scenes. We see things and we think that an extra activity is just what you need. Personally I am very very very excited. It is an activity that is near and dear to my heart and let's face it I'm a shy introvert that could use all the help making friends I can get. If you are anything like me this will be like a new adventure. So without further stalling I announce that we will be starting a .... . . . . . . . . . . . BOOK CLUB! That's right members we are going to start a book club. A place where we pick a book and then have reading assignments along with questions and discussion every week. Now onto the book picking. First off we really want to pick books that the people who are actually reading will enjoy. So if you arnt joining us but have a suggestion just say so in your post. So if you are joining us please comment "Don't damage the books!!" So I can get a count. After that each member joining may suggest up to three books to be considered. When choosing a book please think of everyone. Pick something on a topic that may interest many people. Something that is neither too easy nor too hard. With good elements to keep us interested. I will announce a deadline before too long and after that we will compile a list from your suggestions and ours (Not all suggestions will be on the voting list). After this it will be put to a vote. From there on there will be small weekly assignments with fun and inclusive questions to answer.please don't fret about things getting overwhelming. We will keep assignments short and you can pick and choose on the questions, discussing those that really interest you. And if we all need a week off we can always make that happen. So if you like to read and want to get in on this please comment!!! I think this will be a great time that you won't want to miss. Pigtail 5
Vampiress Posted July 14, 2021 Report Posted July 14, 2021 Don't damage the books!! Are we allowed to back out if the book picked is not of interest to us, though? I have a really short attention span with books if they don't interest me (took me almost a year to finish The Hobbit, but other books I can finish in a matter of hours or a few days). Recommendations:1.) Any of the books by Michelle Moran, though I'd prefer one of the Egyptian ones (Nefertiti: A Novel -or- The Heretic Queen -or- Cleopatra's Daughter) 2.) Mistress of Rome by Kate Quinn 3.) The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks (first in the Shannara Trilogy. There was a tv show called Shannara Chronicles loosely based on these books, but this first book predates the events of the tv show.) I'm quite keen on historical fiction, fantasy, some paranormal books, fiction about animals (I used to read books about wolf packs, for example), and classic literature. I have not delved into sci-fi much but might be open to some of that, too. I'm not very familiar with romance novels though I am willing to give it a try, and I do not read horror (but don't let this deter anyone from recommending them, I won't feel excluded if I skip some book club things). I do not consider all paranormal books to be horror, most of the vampire or other paranormal books I've read were not scary at all. Oh yeah, young adult books are cool too. Easy to read but many of them have pretty interesting stories! 1

The answer to your question is of course yes people can back out at anytime for any reason with no penalty to say. And if you can join us later we will welcome you with open arms. These are excellent suggestions and I will add them to the list to be c9nsodered. I really hope the book we settle on is one you can enjoy because I would love to see you join. 2
Vampiress Posted July 14, 2021 Report Posted July 14, 2021 I'm not too picky but every now and then I come across a book that is just a real struggle to get through. If anyone is more interested in non-fiction books now or another time I could suggest a couple others. Thank you for the warm welcome, I look forward to seeing what other people recommend!

PigtailPrincess Posted July 15, 2021 Author Report Posted July 15, 2021 Question! Does this apply for only hard cover books? or could could you also reccomend comics, light novels, or even manga? Unfortunately at this time we are only doing novels. But we would still love to have you!
Guest Hero_Yuri Posted July 15, 2021 Report Posted July 15, 2021 Unfortunately at this time we are only doing novels. But we would still love to have you! Ahh dang .__. My nerdy ways, so dang strong >.< I don't read any of the normal novel stuff though and don't got anything to suggest to help out; I feel like I might ruin the book club.-.
PigtailPrincess Posted July 15, 2021 Author Report Posted July 15, 2021 Ahh dang .__. My nerdy ways, so dang strong >. Well there is always a time for change! And as I said assignments will be small. You wouldn't ruin it and it's also on to not have a suggestion and just read along. But I completely understand if it isn't your thing. But know you are welcome!

Guest Teasing Tink Posted July 18, 2021 Report Posted July 18, 2021 Don't damage the books!! I'm open to pretty much anything -- both fiction and non-fiction, and I love everyone's suggestions so far. The three I'm choosing as suggestions are just ones I already had on hand but never read (have only seen the movies). I thought these might appeal to a broad audience because they're both classics and/or seemed kind of middle/little-ish. There's nothing like getting sucked into that head space through a good book -- or rather, heart space. 1.Alice in Wonderland 2. The Secret Garden 3. The Princess Bride
