How do I maintain my daily routine/structure ?

Recommended Posts

My summer break just started, and I'm worried that I'll end up wasting most of my time because of the lack of structure (that classes provide) and not get any work done. Any tips on how you maintain your routine without school/college and find time to regress while being productive?

I have the same problem. For me, I make lists and push my self to complete them and reward myself with a treat each day. I get a great satisfaction seeing my list completed. I also make time each day to relax. Self discipline can be very difficult at times. But in you can do your school work you can do this

Yes! I have a planner that’s got a spot for writing out notes as well as keeping track of times and dates. It’s great! Sunday’s are my “lazy days” but any other times I’ve got things planned out to a T. Otherwise I’ll get distracted and nothing gets gone or I’ll forget about things even if it’s important. It’s super important to keep organized during more free times so it’s not hard to get back into the swing when life gets hectic again. I always like to reward myself as well. Every pay day I buy myself and both my kids one thing we want. (I also keep my finances in a planner and budget down to the penny each month haha) but treats and rewards don’t always have to cost money. I enjoy just walking the bookstore and looking at all the books as a treat. I don’t always buy it though haha

Good luck! You can message me if you want to chat.

Thank you both for the advice, I'll try making a list and start a planner (with a reward based system)~ then keep doing whatever works best for me. Thank you !

Hiya!! What helps with me is everyday, or most days, I start my day before anything with writing a list of to-dos! I structure it like below:

1) things i'd like to get done today

2) things i'd like to do today if i have time

3) things i want to do for me, little space wise or self-care or otherwise

i just list everything out and once i havea  brief overview of how i want to structure my day, then ideally i colour block my day in hours and decide roughly when i want to do things, when i want things done, when is convenient for me to get Thing A done, etc :) on low energy days, realistically i try to list out as much as i can of the things i want to get done that day. Once I have that list, then I think abt making a second list in order of priority and do them throughout the day. On particularly low energy days, I choose at most 4 items, but on average 2, to finish or at least start by the end of the day.

As for regressing, I make sure to have at least 5-10 minutes every hour to do something, anything, related to my little interests, even if its just staring at my sticker collection or snuggling my stuffie. If i miss the first break, then i'll take 15 minutes instead. I always make sure to take about 2-3 1 hour breaks throughout the day. I'll either get myself some finger food on my plate thats dedicated for little space time, or i do other little activities!

I have a habit of needing to constantly do something so forcing breaks is necessary and this is what helps me! so i do hope this helps

hi, everyone!

so, Daddy and i are long distance, and we also struggled with this for a while! here's what works for us!

we have a weekly scheduling call where we plan out our week together!

the day before we make our schedules, we make a list of things we'd like to accomplish that week.

it's very similar to what was mentioned above, except we use a star system to indicate if this is something you'd like to get done, or something you need to get done by a certain day.

then, Daddy assigns me what tasks to do what day so i have things to do on my less-busy days and also so that i don't overschedule myself!

it's especially good for those of us who work from home, or even do online classes because you're sort of forced to set your own schedule regardless.

Thank you, that helps a lot. Putting things in a priority order helped a LOT. I'm also in the habit of making lists, but I often get distracted when I take my break, then end up working without breaks for several hours on end. But I tried to be a little more strict with myself, set timers for every item on the list and it's working so far
