Anyone planning to go to TeddyCon?

Hi all!

So I have seen on Instagram that TeddyCon has now opened their registration for TeddyCon 2021. I have never been, but I'm wondering if anyone here has had experiences going to TeddyCon, or really any other conventions? I've never been to a convention before, so any helpful tips would be appreciated!

Additionally, what are your opinions on going to conventions during the pandemic? How do you think they will change things due to COVID?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

The only convention I have been to has been comic con. I was supposed to attend two bdsm conventions in 2020 (including one that was specific to ageplay) however *gestures vaguely around* all that happened so unfortunately they got postponed. Cons can feel overwhelming, so if you're someone that needs to plan ahead, look through the schedule an information the con puts out way ahead of time. It may help to either have a friend come with you or find out if anyone you know is going already.

In regards to Covid precautions they should be making that information public, if not you could probably ask them. Personally I would be cautious when an event does not have a public statement about what precautions they are implementing. But that is up to individuals to decide where their risk factor lies.

My Daddy and I enjoy going to furry conventions, that's actually where we first met. They can be a lot of fun but as was said they definitely can be a bit overwhelming depending on how big they are. Getting there a day early and staying a day after can help give some time prepare and then decompress on the other end.

My Daddy took me to the cub room at our last con, before everything shut down, and I admit I got overwhelmed and He had to take me out of the room and cuddle me to help me reset mentally.

They can be a lot of fun but sometimes people do use them as an excuse to try behaviours, not always positive ones, they wouldn't try in other settings.

As for COVID precautions, personally I don't think any large gathering is a smart idea right now. Even with the best of intentions in the part of the con staff there's going to be people who don't listen to the safety precautions. Personally I just wouldn't want to risk the health of my family and friends by going and bringing something back. I'm not sure running a con right now really speaks to a high level of concern for attendees or other people, just my opinion though.

I was actually thinking about this for a bit! I honestly think it looks fun and what I have read there is definitely a lot of enjoyment and activities! My only problem is that I don’t like traveling alone and just can’t see myself going without someone I can trust!

I have been to a convention called Cosplacon and it was amazing when I went! I enjoyed it the whole time and being able to go to panels and learn new and exciting things was fun! It is even better when you can go as a character of your choice! And the games were just as fun! I definitely recommend them! The only problem I have is the fact that there can be an awful lot of chaos and sometimes it can feel overwhelming! I was fortunate enough to have friends around when I did go as it was easy to keep close and have an area to sit unbothered.

In terms of the pandemic a lot of conventions are still planned to continue in my area. Especially being that most places in Missouri are completely open. I know that some have a limit of participants and even have restrictions that weren’t in place before hand. And they require mask as well as a screening. And a few conventions went to simply being streamed online. So it is definitely odd and different!

Ouuuu. I’ve seen fun happenings at Teddy Con and think it would be a ton of fun to go but I’m holding off on any cons during the pandemic.

When attending a convention:

*Bring snacks

*Look to see if they feature a silent room if you need to just recharge

*Plan out the classes you want to go to (Not sure if they offer master classes at Teddy Con but you’ll usually have to register ahead of time if you want to get into one. They generally fill up fast as well.)

*after a con weekend, you might want to not work the next day so you can rest so some people might experience “convention drop”

*If you’re interested in making connections before hand maybe use Fetlife to socialize and talk to others. I’m sure Teddy Con probably has its own page with various threads.

****Set a spending budget!!! Oh the wonderful things you’d probably find!

*Look to see what their policy is about phones, picture taking, and generally what they do to be private. There was a kink convention I went to where the prohibiting of photos wasn’t being enforced. Depending on how much privacy is important to you, it might be good to reach out to some peeps who have been and get their two cents. Again, Fetlife would be a good site to do that on.
