Appreciating friendship.

I was thinking about Valentine’s Day , and about how everyone does nice things for themselves or their partners on that special day. It popped into my head how nice it would be to have a best friend Valentine’s Day. One where you shower your best friend with love and affection , and appreciation for them. So , I figure I would ask ;

 

Who is your oldest friend ? How did you meet ? What is your favorite thing about them ? What is one thing they do that annoys you but wouldn’t change for the world ?

 

I’ll start

 

My best friends name is Tanner. I’ve known him for probably six years now ? Maybe even more. We met at the job I actually work at now , he was an employee at our job first. And one of the other workers was trying to sell the worst devices possible because he wanted to make some quick cash , Tanner leaned over the counter and whispered “Don’t listen to that guy , he’s a fuckin moron and doesn’t know what he’s doing. That device will break in a week.”

I instantly loved his blunt attitude and honesty. We’ve been attached at the hip since that moment I feel like.

My favorite thing about Tanner , is that he will never lie to me. Never has and I believe he never will because he’s shown me that I can trust and believe in him. Honesty is huge to me and he’s never broken my trust. He might piss me off sometimes , but he would never lie to me or hurt me. He’s one of the most blunt and straight forward people I’ve ever met.

One thing that annoys me about my best friend..... he’s LAZY. LOL. He’s extremely intelligent, so he’s one of those people that finds the “easiest” way to do things... which doesn’t always work out for him. He prefers to stay in his room all day , so dragging him over to my house to play or go somewhere to hang out takes a lot of convincing. What PC gamer wants to leave their computer >_< right ? But , it’s just something I wouldn’t change. I feel that if he prefers to be lazy , I’m not going to force him to have work ethics like me or to be as active as myself. I’ll take what I can get , I work with him all the time anyways cause I’m his boss now so I can harass him any day of the week <3

I like this a lot! Ok my best friend is named devon, we met online( it was some app that i dont think exists anymore). I love the fact he is willing to care and help pretty much anyone and will stay up way to late to do it. The thing that annoys me to no end but i know now he does it to just annoy me lol is pronounceing this one place where i like wrong just so we can argue and laugh.

I really like this thread! That sounds like a really special friend you have that he's always honest with you. It's so so hard to find people like that, and even harder to find someone who can be down to earth honest with you and not hurtful honest.

 

I know friends are friends regardless of online or not, and that there are different degrees of friendship so with that in mind I'm going to list a few if that's okay.

 

I would say my most surface level friendship that I've had the longest is since middle school, so half my life at this point or 15'ish years.

We met through my former best friend (just drifted apart) and my favorite thing about her is that she's learned and accepted that I'm an introvert that needs my SPACE.

One thing that annoys me is that she talks a lot. A lot a lot. It's nice that she's so open on many things though.

 

For my oldest online best friend, we've known each other for.... 12-13 years now? We don't talk everyday or even every month, but when we do it's like no time has passed which is the best. We met playing the game Guild Wars and I love that he has the same cynicism and dark humor as I do. One thing that annoys me is about him is.... hmm, I'm not sure there is anything. I just wish we were available more often and interested in the same games to play together more often!

 

My closest friend I've known for almost 7 years now, though we didn't talk much that first year. We met at either a welcome event or orientation for grad school. (She later told me she thought I was weird at first.  ) My favorite thing about her is that she cares deeply about education and doing the best she can for her students so that they can be engaged with curriculum content and see school more than as just something that's compulsory. One thing that annoys me about her but that I wouldn't change, is also that she can be very talkative over the phone. It's not often that we talk though and she doesn't talk about superficial things so it's usually pretty deep.

My oldest friend is probably not a long enough friendship that most people would call it old, however she is the only friend I haven't lost when I moved away from home and I consider her my best friend. Through 3 years being a 7 hour drive away and only being able to see each other in person once or twice a year she's stuck with me, she even came down to visit when my other 5 friends (not friends now but at the time I thought we were REALLY close friends) couldn't be bothered or found it too much effort. I met my best friend playing roller derby (I was new to the team and we just clicked right away). 

 

The thing I love most about her: Thats a hard one because there is so much to love. But I think the really big thing is that she puts as much effort into the friendship as I do. With a lot of past friendships (like the 5 mentioned above or my former best friend) I have always been the one who's had to put in the effort, I've had to call or text, I've made myself available and gone out of my way for them and never received similar effort back. But with my bestie I do, she's so wonderful. I also love that she's super understanding and open - I recently 'came out' to her as a little and she accepted me fully which I was so scared about. 

 

One thing that annoys me: I don't really find anything about her annoying. The only thing I can think of is that she's a shift worker and so we can't hang out as much as I would like. But that's about it haha.
