Guest Thunder Sprite Posted November 24, 2020 Report Posted November 24, 2020 Hi! I'm curious what sorts of activities caregivers and littles or middles of a more nerdly persuasion might enjoy together? Does anyone do anything like science projects? I would love to have someone show me how to make ionic lifters, for example...
gekko Posted November 24, 2020 Report Posted November 24, 2020 Yeah, actually I've done the science experiments before, used to be a weekend thing. I'm not exactly scientifically illiterate, I have a Bachelors of Science degree, but even so I had a lot of fun doing elementary school level science experiments. I might know the terms and know what the experiment will show, but even so I was sometimes surprised with non-intuitive results and had fun playing with the concepts, even if I already knew them. And having daddy there to guide and explain things always made me feel little. I always wanted to try playing D&D together which some would consider nerdy, but I'm not sure thats the type of "nerdy" you're going for. 1
DaddysMonkey Posted November 24, 2020 Report Posted November 24, 2020 I would say video games right off the top of my noggin. Walmart and Target , in the toy sections .. they sell little science kits ^-^ like grow your own geode and stuff like that. Puzzles are nerdy (but I find them boring) , building Star Wars stuff out of Legos. Cooking is nerdy and scientific to me , well baking is anyway. If you aren’t exact with your measurements in baking a lot can go wrong very quickly. Going on a walk on the beach and collecting sand dollars or other strange objects and creatures. There’s a lot you can do really , it’s just about using your imagination and putting the effort into finding something you want to do. You can google “nerdy things to do” or “science projects easy” , stuff like that and you’ll get thousands of answers and suggestions. 1
Coco600 Posted November 25, 2020 Report Posted November 25, 2020 I second the science kit idea! They are a lot of fun and there is a huge variety with experiments and age range. The geode one was cool. And the slime one (although a super easy science experiment) was fantastic since you could add a lot if stuff to it. Board Games, card games, online games (i get super competitive with Hearthstone) For more complicated experiments (like ionic lifters) then you-tube is definitely my go-to. I love astronomy, but wasn't ready to invest in a telescope so got a pair of cheapish binoculars and a star-map app and try to match constellations or watch comet showers. There are also a lot of apps that are cool. Like 'science kids' 'brilliant' or 'Google science journal'. hope this is what you were looking for. 1
MysticSand Posted November 25, 2020 Report Posted November 25, 2020 I'm not sure if this fits the 'nerdy' genre but when I visited my Little in person, we were able to play the piano together and made a little melody. Well, realistically I just played some rolling chords and he did the improv melody. We also do D&D together but it's a little on the rocks at the moment as it's tough to keep a steady D&D group together. 1
