Accountable Daddy Posted November 9, 2020 Report Posted November 9, 2020 (edited) I have a history of reading stories to small groups and individuals over Discord servers and have been considering recording myself and posting it on Youtube. I only hesitate because there seems to already be a lot of fantastic talent that is out there for this sort of thing (for instance, a reading of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is easy to find and a far better production value and better voice actors than I'd be able to offer). So would any of you be interested in that? And if so, would you just want the story only or would you want an opening and closing DDlg segment too (talking about how it's your bedtime and we're going to get you all comfortable before we start, then wishing you goodnight for the ending)? Essentially trying to gauge interest and ideas for it. Edit: The channel is live! Please go check it out. It's small as of this writing, but I have a lot of plans for it in the coming days! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRCY46usoJTSQHIVzsIPofg Edited April 22, 2021 by Accountable Daddy 3

Guest Little Amber Posted November 10, 2020 Report Posted November 10, 2020 I would be interested, to whatever level you are comfortable doing.
cloudcat Posted November 10, 2020 Report Posted November 10, 2020 If reading stories is something you enjoy doing for others, then go for it! Regardless of 'production value' I'm sure you'll be able to find a large audience of listeners I would enjoy some sort of intro and ending segments as well if that's something you're comfortable doing. Good luck and have fun if you do decide to record your stories!
PigtailPrincess Posted November 10, 2020 Report Posted November 10, 2020 I think this is a great idea! I would love to listen
Gingerbread Posted November 10, 2020 Report Posted November 10, 2020 Up to be the listener! Hehe. Please go on with the ideas and let us know the channel/link later on! And you can also make some stories have opening and ending, and some don't. So we can have options and you can use it to analyze the results yourself, which one that you also prefer. Hehe. Good luck!!
Frog Posted November 10, 2020 Report Posted November 10, 2020 A long, long time ago before MP3s, I took part in an production of a sci fi audio production. We were sent parts of the script and recorded ourselves on a cassette. I never heard the final, but I heard it came out pretty good. That might be a good idea since now we have ways to boost audio and clean the background noise.
Accountable Daddy Posted November 10, 2020 Author Report Posted November 10, 2020 Oh wow, I wasn't expecting this much attention for this idea here! Thanks everyone. In that case I think I'll put something together today or tomorrow and see what a friend thinks. And if we both like it, I'll post it. Should be really fun! 1
Bearly Posted November 11, 2020 Report Posted November 11, 2020 Find cool stories that people haven't already posted on youtube, and please make it unique, like with segments at the beginning/end! I host a storytime channel on Telegram (sorta like Discord) and even there I have a small but enthusiastic viewership. And if you have CGL segments, you can get around marking it as "for kids".
RainDoeSprinkles Posted November 11, 2020 Report Posted November 11, 2020 I love the idea!! I think there is a need for a real Daddy kind of person to read stories to littles. Definitely have the DDlg aspect at the beginning and end! Dont worry about how many subscribers or views you get, especially at the beginning. I am sure, if done with sincerity and a genuine Daddy heart, you'll do great!! Oh, and here's a little advice: take your time and dont rush through your reading. Give your viewers plenty of time to process and enjoy the illustrations. Maybe even invite them to verbally respond as you read, like a Daddy would do. Like,if it's a counting book, you could say, "how many duckies can you find? Let's count together!" And do different funny voices for the characters if you can! Laughter and fun make people so happy!
LittleNece Posted November 11, 2020 Report Posted November 11, 2020 (edited) I think it is a fantastic idea as well. I would like the DdLg beginning and ending myself, as someone who does not have a caregiver, but I agree that the recording could be made with and without for the listener can choose since some might like to listen while coloring and stuff. I also like the idea of reading less popular stories. Is there any way you can have a wishlist from listeners? Or maybe some of the Littles who love to write would submit their work to be read. LilyLuvish Posted December 8, 2020 Report Posted December 8, 2020 I adore this idea!! I would love to hear bedtime stories. Especially with a DDlg-related message at the beginning/end. No Daddy for me at the moment and I would find that very soothing, especially on the more lonely nights.
Guest angel babygirl Gina tv Posted December 20, 2020 Report Posted December 20, 2020 That is a great idea
Accountable Daddy Posted April 22, 2021 Author Report Posted April 22, 2021 Well, had to do a mass reply, lol. All of you sounded like you were looking forward to this, so that's why you're quoted. So good news: I finally launched the channel! As of this typing I only have the first two chapters of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and an intro (which I tried adding a small amount of sound effect to). Which that playlist is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaXg89C3dKU&list=PLBoYPlDVV8dcJqGGbaMbP_LRSItrMMccn&index=2 I'll be adding more chapters in the coming days. What I have planned is the intro, 2 chapters, a "break" to check in with you and talk a little about the story so far (and a good point to leave off if you dozed and can't remember what happened), then another 2 chapters, and so on until it's done. 12 chapters in total and an outro. I also have a whole book of short stories and fairy tales. I'll probably sprinkle those in as I go. From there, it just matters by how far this takes off. I've considered the idea of doing lullabies, but frankly I don't feel I have the voice for it (although at this moment I have a recording of myself singing Puff The Magic Dragon that I don't see myself ever uploading, lol!). I'm also going to post a link to the channel itself at the top of this thread. I might make a dedicated thread for this, but at the moment this is the hub thread. But I want to say I really appreciate all the positive interest and support for this idea. And hopefully you really enjoy what I make. 1
