I Dream Of You

it's 2 a.m. and i'm wide awake

will you tell me a story

let me hear your velvet voice through my phone 

let me pretend you're here with me

 

i can't sleep

will you lay with me

let your love fill me up

let your warmth surround me

 

i'm all alone

in this bleak, cold room

reaching for your hand but it's not there

 

i close my eyes and dream of us together 

running in the meadow

kissing in the rain

foraging in the woods

holding each other tight

 

i dream of you and me

of me and you

of us together 

 

i drift away

down the rabbit hole 

and dream until i can't dream anymore

and when i awaken i cry a bit

because it was just a figment of my imagination

the subconscious manifestation of my deepest desire, you

 

it's still dark out 

i check my clock praying that it's time to start the day

hoping that it's time to put my dreams of you away, but...

 

it's 3 a.m. and i'm wide awake
