daddyjames Posted October 10, 2015 Report Posted October 10, 2015 Hello caregivers (and littles)! I love reading, have done ever since I was a kid. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to share a passion for storytelling with a little, if and when I meet her. I'm curious how some of you other daddies go about telling bedtime stories. Do you buy a kids' storybook and read from that like you would to a child? Do you make up your own stories, either writing them down first or just on the fly? Or some combination of the two? And for the storytelling itself, how dramatic do you get? Do you give each character their own voice? I think that bedtime stories, or storytime in general, could be a really fun part of the DD/LG dynamic, so I'd love to know what you all think! Cheers
Daddy4Princess Posted October 10, 2015 Report Posted October 10, 2015 I will make up stories on the fly, but I enjoy reading books to her as well. The first time I read my little a story, I took pictures of every page of the book and sent the to her, then called and read it to her so she could follow along and look at the pictures. The story was "Lizette's Green Sock". I highly recommend it.
daddyjames Posted October 10, 2015 Author Report Posted October 10, 2015 Thanks for the tip, I'll have to check that out! As for taking pictures of every page of the book to send on, that's real dedication right there! Not to mention a genius idea!
Lisa Posted October 12, 2015 Report Posted October 12, 2015 I like hardback storybooks with lots of pictures and maybe even finger puppets; can do with/without "voices".
Little Miss Ambrosia Posted November 4, 2015 Report Posted November 4, 2015 I love being read to even if it's not bedtime. My favourites would be any interactive books, or those with loads of pictures. Or original fairytales... the very dark ones that are hella creepy (those make the best bedtimes stories, cause you're required to give 'I'll protect you, princess' cuddles afterwards) And as far as making up your own stories goes, I find those work best (for me) in a long distance type of situations. It's very soothing to just listen to those on skype and fall asleep. Just go off your little's reaction and adapt the story/intonation as you go. If it's just story time, then adding a bit of personality to the characters helps with the story itself and is greatly appreciated, but during bed time stories something more monotonous works best as it's easier to doze off to. ^.^
Guest kittycandy's Daddy Posted November 4, 2015 Report Posted November 4, 2015 we've started story telling before bedtime, so far just on the fly but I have a whole collection of disney books at the ready too
LittleMiss Posted November 4, 2015 Report Posted November 4, 2015 My Daddy/Master (we haven't decided on an official title for him as he has yet to warm up to the title Daddy) reads me these Star Wars story books. They're very basic but honestly, I just really like them. Daddy and I take turns doing voices and it surprisingly puts me to sleep very easily. They're called "Vader's Little Princess" and "Vader and Son" by Jeffrey Brown. (:
Guest DaddysLolita Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 I love being read to! <3 My Daddy writes his own stories, often featuring my favorite stuffie. I've only been read to once but I did really enjoy it.....and wouldn't mind if he made silly voices or got really into it *hint* 1
LolitasDaddy Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 I prefer to write my own stories. I will pick a a stuffie pal, lately her Cloudpet Plum Pink, and write a story about an adventure. Maybe she could discover something new, or meet some of the other stuffies. I've found that adding as many personal aspects you can will make the story that much more appealing. If you need a head start, take an existing story and make it yours in some way. Build on it. Have fun 2
Guest Chandelier Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 I love bedtime stories and stories in general. In a previous vanilla relationship, my ex would tell me stories. She would use common fables/stories and replace characters with people we knew or just me and her and change the stories accordingly.

Guest Pouty Kitten Posted December 30, 2015 Report Posted December 30, 2015 I love being read to. It's my favorite thing in the entire world! Daddy and I go to the bookstore and I get to pick out a few books. Sometimes I'll ask Daddy to make up a story and they end up being pretty silly
littlemonstergirl Posted January 2, 2016 Report Posted January 2, 2016 Daddy always makes me up stories on the fly when I ask for a story. We don't do bedtime stories very often, it's mostly when I am having a bad anxiety day that I request a bedtime story.
