So I was thinking about making a littles book club where we could read books together, but then I remembered zoom. And how cool would it be to have a Littles story time where someone was reading a story and we could all get on and see each other and listen and stuff! Anyway I really like the idea of anyone thinks it's a good one let me know maybe we can get this going.

i'd recommend against using zoom, it has a terrible reputation regarding system security right now!

I know plenty of people who are really happy with it, but I know it's not the only video call place that let's you have multiple people on at once I think.

its not really a case of if people are happy with it or not, that isnt the point im making i am saying the security ie, the ability of the company to defend against security breaches and deter hackers is under scrutiny right now, some people may not mind their personal data and conversations being stolen but i would prefer anyone who uses zoom know what they are signing up for by using it in any capacity

just to reiterate, i am not saying the company is stealing and making your data public, i am saying the company is struggling or not taking adequate steps to prevent third parties from doing that.

also i think your book club idea is fantastic even if it doesent apply to me!

Yes Zoom is not safe. But yes there are lots of similar platforms. Google Hangouts Meet is one of them Edited by YourRoughCaringDaddy

Skype and Discord are the most trusted and used for groups and group calling. However Discord only has group voice if you make a server. I think you can have multiple people in a video call but it would have to be outside of a server. Skype since it was taken over by microsoft has had a few glitches and bumps but for the most part is still okay.

My family and friends have been using Zoom for work purposes and have nothing but bad things to say about it. Personally I think trying multiple platforms out with a small group of people ( say about 3 - 6 ) would be better to figure out which one you like best and offers the most benefits for you and your group.

Yeah that could possibly be a good way to figure out what works best, I'm going to have to look into it more just was trying to see who would be interested in the idea.

Hi :)

I think it's a great idea!

Have you considered just open a new thread messages on this forum called "Book Club" (or what ever you want) and whoever wants to join and fallow the topic is welcome to. I don't know if there is a voting poll option on this forum, but if not you can use SurveyMonkey to create a voting poll and post the link on here so people can vote on the book they want to read.

I have to use Zoom for work and it is not safe; for example, someones camera was activated after the Zoom meeting ended.

Don't be discouraged I think it is a great idea. If you need help on this I'm here for you.

Good luck!

I love the idea of a littles book club! I'm always looking for new good books - there are so many of them out there.

I was thinking about maybe posting something on the social media section and anyone who wants to be a part of it can comment on it yes. I'm going to look into some places it could be done on instead of zoom though and see what we can come up with.

Discord is definitely widely accepted. You can also try Kast which is also good for watch parties and stuff. Kast does allow video and voice chat. https://www.kastapp.co/ (SFW). Formerly known as rabb.it for people who maybe knew that one and hadn't moved on to Kast. It had some problems around launch but I think the updates have improved it greatly.
