Because the sky and the sea are fraternal twins. The sky dyed itself blue to trick the sea animals. It was a botched dye job and now the sky remains a washed out permanent blue.

The secret is that they used to be on the top of our head, but the unicorns didn't like it and they pushed our noses down to the middle of our faces.
