Guest LittleBoyChris Posted February 18, 2021 Report Posted February 18, 2021 (edited) It's very much a thing albeit one some don't feel comfortable talking about having had it for a long long time. For some it can be a sense of "How come they're accepted doing that but I'm not just because I'm aged -- (fill in blank)" sometimes it can be people you are close to trying to go "Shh." as they're more wrapped around how they think people will see them as you're just being your real emotional age that really brings it into sharp focus. One thing that to this day annoys me is finding my main toy, a complete action man set with all the accessories being promised to a relative without any discussion by my folks that I was still playing with being told "You're told old for them" when you give them a stare just because I (and seems a fair few of us) are 'different' and are likely to remain so for our whole lives. kaleidopink Posted May 28, 2021 Report Posted May 28, 2021 Yeah, I've gone through something quite similar for a pretty long time, at least. Add the fact that I'm autistic, so I've struggled as far as social rules and cues are concerned. Couple that with unpleasant life experiences before I hit age 10 and you've got someone who doesn't really feel like their true age. Of course, I'm sure plenty of people have felt this way to some extent, but at least they manage to 'catch up' for the most part. There are a few things I've yet to live out at least once and of course, as a woman, I've developed some insecurities about getting older. Because I hadn't lived out my life the way I wanted to, because I missed out on this and that as well as my condition, I do find myself feeling at least a bit younger than I truly am.
