Guest Sweetbottoms Posted October 29, 2019 Report Posted October 29, 2019 The two I remember really liking are Ghost of Windy Hill and The Giving Tree. I remember the giving tree. It was very nice did you read where the sidewalk ends by any chance? I believe both books are done by the same author last name Silverstein? I should check out ghost of windy hill I haven't heard of that one before and I do like ghoststories 1
Guest Sunshinekitty Posted October 29, 2019 Report Posted October 29, 2019 Yes, the one was Shel Silverstein. The other, by Clyde Robert Bulla.

Cara Innes Posted October 30, 2019 Report Posted October 30, 2019 I loved Shel Silverstein and Jack Prelutsky growing up, as well as Pippi Longstocking. Oh, and this one book called 'Gertie's Green Thumb'! 0.0; There was also this children's book that I really liked but I can't remember what it was even called....something about a little boy mouse who either went to his grandma's or his aunt's or something, and they had fun doing different stuff around the house, including painting a door pale yellow. ;;; I also liked to take out books from the library about nature and art and castles and things.Err. ; ...but otherwise, my tastes tended (and still tend) to be a little old fashioned. (Original) Fairy tales, kids' collections of world myths, or old-timey kids' stuff like Alice In Wonderland are solid go-to's when I regress, for some reason.I do want to check out Neil Gaiman's kids stuff. ...AND, there WERE two *newer* books that I remember the Little's group that I belonged to had on hand: 'Little Green Peas', and 'Lots of Lambs'. I *adored* those!! Once, one of the Bigs read them to the group, too. He wasn't mine, but he was one of my favorite people and it was the first time I'd ever been read to while in Middle Space and I loved it! I really should take a peek at the newer kids' books more often.
Guest CuriousCookie Posted October 30, 2019 Report Posted October 30, 2019 Ooh books! A few years ago I worked in childcare and discovered “The Gruffalo” by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. I like it so much! I mean it rhymes, the illustrations are so cute and the story is awesome. There was one girl in the group who came to me every single morning and then we read the book at least twice, needless to say I still know most of that book by heart “The Highway Rat” by the duo is quite fun, too. So, they would be the modern children’s books I like. I saw they just published a new one… might have to take a look at that one… Other than that, I really like Astrid Lindgren’s books. They’re fantastic and I always dreamed of living like Michel or Pippi or Ronja. And I adore “the little water sprite” by Otfried Preussler, read that one as a project with kids as well and it was so much fun. Now I’m going to look up the books by Shel Silverstein as you all mentioned him
