I’m gonna be getting some pacis soon but I’m worried that they’ll ruin my teeth? I’m okay with how my teeth look now but I do have a pretty bad overbite... and I’ve heard/read on many sites that sucking a pacifier with adult teeth can cause/increase an overbite or even cause buck teeth? I dunno I really wanna use them because I’m always chewing stuff like my shirt cause of anxiety/nervousness and really thought they’d help me with that I’m just worried about my teeth moving around because of it.. is there like a certain amount of time a week I could use a pacifier without my teeth being ‘put at risk’? I started using a paci about a year ago.  I've always had an overbite, quite a large overbite, but I can't say that using my paci has made that any worse.  I'd recommend that you not fall asleep with your paci as that can cause problems with your teeth and mouth.  On the whole, I wouldn't worry about your teeth being "put as risk" and just go by how you feel.  If it's uncomfortable or you get any aches or pains then avoid using your paci but I'm confident you'll find that your teeth won't suffer.  :)

Try it out. If you find it’s hurting your teeth, gums or jaw- stop using it.

Over-using a pacifier realistically is to be using it every night. Some people just like how it feels though.

I don’t recommend using a paci for more than an hour at a time, taking a lil break in between. However I think your teeth will only begin to move out of place if you’re using it daily for hours at a time, and continued nightly. Like people using invisalign either nightly or throughout the day. It’s the sucking motion and pushing it up against the back of your top teeth that cause the gradual shift. I imagine that would be painful/uncomfortable and irritating before it got to that point though.

And make sure it’s an adult pacifier. Baby ones for older toddler ages may be okay as well. They are less likely to cause tooth pain than the infant pacies.

Other than all of that- how exciting that you’re getting your first pacifier! D:

My first pacifier I got (which was an adult one) got uncomfortable really quick and I couldn't stand having it in my mouth for longer periods of time at all, which was really sad.

My daddy then got me newer versions and I have no problem with those at all and find them very comfortable.

I always thought adult paci's were totally safe. I thought that problem would only occur if you used ones that weren't meant for an adult so I'm glad I'm reading this! D:

I do go to sleep with my paci, but I tend to lose it in bed overnight so I don't have it in the whole night. I'm a thumbsucker and still prefer my thumb over paci's.

Which is why I think I always end up losing my paci overnight, I'm probably unconsciously looking for my thumb instead.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. I have been using a pacifier every night since January and have seen no decrease in functioning, strength or position of my teeth in that time. I mainly use adult ones but also have used some infant ones. One of the things that made me feel like this was ok was hearing how the use of pacifiers can help with snoring at night. I have been known to snore very loudly and, since using a pacifier, have not had anyone complain that I woke the dead up or anything each night. I do not have an overbite or any known teeth related issues prior to using a pacifier, but can say that it has been a great help to me both in little baby space time as well as in preventing snoring at night. Hope this helps you out some.
