Modern day virtual pet toys

so i got to thinking the other day about my childhood in the 90's of ol windows virtual pet games and tamagotchi's and those robotic dogs and cats that went around on wheels and made noises and all that and i was thinking about getting some of that nostalgia back

 

so im looking for a virtual pet like a tamagotchi, im talking similar to the original but with more features maybe i am not sure what i would be looking for but i know i want something more involved than the 20th anniversary tamagotchi that is being sold on amazon, it seems to be a slimmed down version more as a keychain toy and conversation piece than an actual virtual pet

 

i would prefer an actual toy over a smartphone game but i am open to anything really!

The only ones I really know are emulators for phones. I use the gameboy one on the store - it's free and you have to find the games to add to the emulator through a site I can't remember for the life of me.

I purchased - what I thought - was a tamagotchi off of Wish, had a picture of the 2000s childhood ones, turns out, it was a shitty replica and was not well made! I don't know what I expected from Wish tbh lol. I think it was the 20th anniversary one or something, the one you mentioned.

Anyways, the emulator is an idea if you're okay with smartphone stuff, but as for a physical toy I would suggest this it's slightly different but it's SO cute looking! 

For something that is a mix of both and kinda like Webkinz I would say this 

I hope that helps out a little bit - we really need some of these 90s toys to make a comeback, I miss them so much!

I have been searching everywhere to find something similar to this - this was my favourite toy when I was small - er! 

Ah, I can ramble about this forever - my coworker and I constantly go back and forth about 90s toys all the time!

they have new versions of the tamagotchi that are more advanced than the original. i would highly suggest looking into the Tamagotchi 4U  (not the 4u+, even though the + is a very nice addition). its more advanced than the original but also simple compared to the newer Tamagotchi M!X and the latest Tamagotchi Meet.

The 4u is NFC compatible (you need an older phone) and there a fan made app (Mr. Blinky) that allows you to add your own content. theres even a few games and food items you can add to make it a little easier to raise your tamagotchi if youre a hard working person of society like myself. sometimes i dont have the time or energy to sit and play the games so the EASYGOTCHI game from the app is a miracle.I only say the 4u is better because i dont think the + is compatible with the Mr. Blinky app

the M!X is great!!! your tamagotchi gets the traits from both parents (hence "MIX") which is really fun but also gets kinda stale fast if you dont have another device or someone to play with.


the Meets are bluetooth compatible (for newer phones) and theres an official Bandai app for it. you can mix your tamas and also have twins!!

lastly, the new Giga Pets AR are pretty neat!! kinda like the OG gigapets but more detailed in image and also has an app where you can see your pet in 3d~
