Guest flowinghairdd Posted March 26, 2019 Report Posted March 26, 2019 I'm taking one off. Does anyone have some advice for cool things to do?
Guest SheepishPrince Posted March 26, 2019 Report Posted March 26, 2019 If you're into travel, you could do a really big road trip or back pack across Europe / north America! You could also pick up a new skill, like wood working, painting, or black smithing :0
Guest crazycatdaddy Posted March 26, 2019 Report Posted March 26, 2019 It really depends a lot on your budget. I see you're based in the USA, so how about the great American road trip? If you had a vehicle you could sleep in, or just took camping supplies, you could really see a lot of the country. It's something I'd love to be able to do if I ever got to go back to the USA, even just a short trip through the southwest is definitely something on my bucket list. And if you got a cheap vehicle it wouldn't necessarily break the bank. If you wanted to go further afield, and do something more exotic, a friend of mine from my schooldays recently took a trip through southeast Asia, and hit places like Vietnam and Thailand over a span of a couple of months. He had an amazing time and got to do things like scuba diving. If you're not up for travelling, you could see what events are planned in your local area. There could be festivals, conventions, markets, it really depends. Take some time to indulge in the hobbies and activities you've been putting off while you've been working/studying. You could pick up new skills, too, like learning a new language, learning to play an instrument, or doing something more technical like computer programming. You could start writing a blog based on something you like, or start a YouTube channel if vlogging is more your style. If you have good writing skills, or good video editing skills, those could be fun. In any case, enjoy your time off and make the most of it!
Guest QueenJellybean Posted March 26, 2019 Report Posted March 26, 2019 taking a year off what? work?
Guest flowinghairdd Posted March 26, 2019 Report Posted March 26, 2019 I should have prefaced that. Between undergrad and graduate school
Guest QueenJellybean Posted March 27, 2019 Report Posted March 27, 2019 ah, gotcha! i did that! i worked + traveled.
Song`rim Redtide Posted March 30, 2019 Report Posted March 30, 2019 I have heard from several people that back packing cross country is general a good building and growing experience if you want to give that a try as an introvert I completely disagree with advice. You could try working in whatever industry you want to end up in part time for money/resume experience as well and save money for small trips to go do things you've never been able to do but always wanted to do. Maybe leave the country if you are able to and mingle with people that have a completely different world view then you, Volunteer work that goes to various other countries is an option too.
