SamL Posted February 26, 2019 Report Posted February 26, 2019 Life after death: yes. Perpetuation of the self/mind? No. ymmv
Big_daddy Posted February 26, 2019 Report Posted February 26, 2019 Of course there's life after death.
Alaskan Daddy Posted February 26, 2019 Report Posted February 26, 2019 Yes I firmly believe there is life after death.
Guest CharlieFPG Posted February 26, 2019 Report Posted February 26, 2019 I have faith on that but I cannot rationally prove it. Since we will get there soon enough, there is not much hurry to find out.
Guest Aetherr Posted February 26, 2019 Report Posted February 26, 2019 no i don't believe there is life after death.
LittleGirlEmilia Posted February 26, 2019 Report Posted February 26, 2019 Nope. I grew up non religious though.
LoonyLoveMay Posted February 26, 2019 Report Posted February 26, 2019 (edited) I guess it all depends in what the person believes in... some will say there is none and other will say that there is... but I guess the most important part is what the individual thinks... If you believe then there is an after life... if you don't it doesn't matter if they were right or not. We will never now the answer so I guess there's nothing to worry about. You can also believe in reincarnation if you like! Edited February 26, 2019 by LoonyLoveMay
CryptKing Posted February 26, 2019 Author Report Posted February 26, 2019 I feel that the only reason humanity doesn't collapse into a cesspool of lawless heathenism is the idea that maybe perhaps there might be something at the end of the proverbial tunnel. But if they knew what was waiting, what would happen to them? Guess i'll just have to say "I can neither confirm nor deny this inquiry"
CryptKing Posted February 26, 2019 Author Report Posted February 26, 2019 I suppose nihilism is always an approach, however.
Guest Revurx Posted February 26, 2019 Report Posted February 26, 2019 I wish I had faith in some magic sky daddy or that I'd be reincarnated as a flying donkey but I lean more towards the nihilistic approach.
LittleTeacup Posted February 26, 2019 Report Posted February 26, 2019 Well, I believe this material world is an illusion. There is no life after death because we don't really die. We just go through a disillusionment where we once again see the truth that we're all one inseparable spirit. We're having this earth experience to learn and grow. The whole Universe is inside each of us trying to learn about itself, as well as inside every animal, plant, fungus, bacterium, rock, water molecule, etc. I like using the term The Great Mystery. As far as learning, I've got a long way to go, but I've made leaps and bounds over the last few years. What an exciting adventure! 1

Guest 37stitches Posted February 26, 2019 Report Posted February 26, 2019 Nope, I don't think there is! However neither side of my family is religious so religion is something I was never really subjected to until later on in life. That being said I think it is important that people hold true to their faith, I think science is correct and I believe the Big Bang is what created the Universe but nobody has any hard proof that any of it is true so really science is just another belief, it would be ignorant to assume everything I believe in is straight up fact for everyone I meet and vice versa!
sullenDaddybones Posted February 26, 2019 Report Posted February 26, 2019 No one really knows 100% you have to die to answer the question fully. We have hints that dead communicate but it's unproven scientifically. Personally it's possible but what would we be once crossed over past the flesh anyway? Anything like we are now?
Guest Urthurs Posted February 26, 2019 Report Posted February 26, 2019 You'll find out sooner or later. Just be patient
baby_k Posted February 26, 2019 Report Posted February 26, 2019 Yes, as others will still keep on living even when you die. ( Sorry, couldn't resist ) 1
BrattyGrownSub Posted February 26, 2019 Report Posted February 26, 2019 My personal view... no. I feel that belief in religion & life after death is a crutch or comfort. It’s a way of trying to find reason or explanation for death. Sorry if this comes across as harsh, it’s not meant that way honestly xxx

Or what sparked the big bang in the first place. Faith wasn't mentioned in the original question, and has no place here honestly. Religion has killed more people than any country on this planet past or present.

You can also believe in reincarnation if you like! Coming back as a grosshopper or butterfly isnt my thing. Besides, what if you get something like a fruit fly and die again after 24 hours? Would it be an endless cycle of birth and death over and over again until the end of eternity? Sounds more like a punishment to me.
SamL Posted February 27, 2019 Report Posted February 27, 2019 Would it be an endless cycle of birth and death over and over again until the end of eternity? Sounds more like a punishment to me. You could not sound more like the Buddha right now if you tried. 1

I had seen your story when I first made my account but it seemed long so I didn't read it I just read this chapter and should read the rest! Several years ago, I would've been almost as confused as your characters. Not quite as much because I liked to read philosophy as a kid even when it baffled me. I should read some of those books again... 1
Superteddybear Posted February 27, 2019 Report Posted February 27, 2019 Nope, there is no life after death. In order to live, you would need a brain. All you are is a constant flow of memories that build your mind. Thats why newborns dont have any self awarness yet, there are no memories, therefore no inner thoughts. As soon as your brain is dead, you are gone. But whats actually really possible is to preserve your brain and put it on a robot. you would only need to keep the brain fed with energy. good news is: u can believe whatever you want, in the end it'll all be memories, who cares if they are real, it doesnt matter. its only in your brain. if you want to know the meaning of life then ask yourself one question: whats the point of the existence of the universe if nobody is here to see it? the universe needed eyes to see, YOU are those eyes. forget about god and religion, its all bullshit! there is nobody else above us! nobody is watching you. Its you who is watching.
